I wonder what the background check entails. Can anyone enlighten me?

Does it mean they just verify the authenticity of submitted police clearance or they also ask for additional datas from the police institution?

At minimum they ask for checks from cooperating countries like USA UK nz etc.

Yes, they are able to verify if the NBI clearance submitted is authentic.

Correct, you will see such checks from "partner countries" under the Info Sharing section.
