Dear all,

I have a question if my wife got approval from cic to enter canada under my sponsorship while she is pregnant what are the main important steps i need to follow once I arrive and If you name some good hospitals to have a delivery ?

Id say first you need to ensure you have euther provincial or private coverage otherwise youll be paying a lot of money for the delivery. I suggest reviewing provincial websites regarding healthcare. I know in ontario a pr who lands must wait 3 months for provincial coverage

In Alberta, a pr who lands have immediate provincial coverage. I would have suggest to find a family doctor first and then he/she would recommend something.

If your wife is not a PR when she delivers, I am not sure she would have coverage even if AB Healthcare kicks in for PR's right away after you apply. Do you anticipate that she will be a PR at the time of delivery?

As for good hospitals, find a good OB/Gyn (usually you will get a referral from a family doctor and when you see the OB/Gyn depends on whether your wife is high risk or not). They usually have a specific hospital they will work out of, so you will probably deliver out of that hospital. When I delivered my son, my OB/Gyn didn't actually deliver him but rather a senior resident did as my doctor wasn't on when I delivered.

Alberta grants health coverage to spouses of AHCIP holders even if they are only visitors.

As long as their status is valid. Alberta doesn’t provide health coverage if you are under implied status.

Seems like you have spent the majority of your time during spousal sponsorship out of Canada. How did you address CICs concerns or else seems unlikely that your wife will get approval. Are you in Canada now and for how long have you been here?
