If Baby was born in Canada or if the mother is a Canadian citizen, then yes. If not and the mother (not sure if you are the husband or wife) is being sponsored (not a PR yet), you have to contact CIC and include the little one in the application for PR.

Congrats BTW!!!.

i am Canadian citizen, newborn should be Canadian citizen.

Congrats on your new born.

I guess you the husband and Sponsor is the Canadian Citizen.

You newborn may be a Canadian Citizen, but this depends.

1. if Baby was born in Canada
- the newborn is Canadian Citizenship by Birth.
- Not eligible to be added to sponsorship or added to sponsorship.

2. if Baby was born outside Canada

2.1 If Canadian parent became Canadian Citizen by Birth or Naturalization, then the baby is a 1st generation born outside Canada and is a Citizen.

Not eligible to be added to sponsorship or added to sponsorship............apply for proof of citizenship.

2.2 If Canadian parent was born outside Canada to a Canadian parent, then the baby is a 2nd generation born outside Canada and not a citizen.

Eligible to be sponsored and added to sponsorship...........due to the 2nd generation limit rule.
Newborn should be add to sponsorship to receive PR......don't Principal Applicant to land and later sponsor newborn.

I hope your case is 1 or 2.1.,

otherwise...

You were born outside Canada but not to Canadian parents......so you had no claim to citizenship and not a citizen as of time of your birth.

You became a citizen by Naturalization, with your family.

So you are right.....Case 2.1 should apply to your newborn.

You need to apply for the newborn Proof of Canadian Citizenship......if baby was born abroad, the application should be sent immediately to the Canadian Embassy servicing the country baby was born.

If the PR visa has not been issued and still been processed at the VO, you may want to inform VO of baby birth.........as the Principal Applicant (your wife) has a new child but which will not be added to spousal sponsorship for PR visa........since newborn has claim to citizenship.........send only Updated IMM5406 form Section B with dependent child details.......so the VO could update your wife record before landing in Canada.
