Are you asking for single person or family

Studio /share apartment = $500-$700
1BR = $900 - $1200
2BR = $1000 - $1400

All above renting cost varies from location with in toronto

Car Parking = $75 - $125
Car Insurance = $250-$300

Outings as you suggested = $250

Misc exp ( food/fruits...) = Variable depends on family composition

Cable+Internet+Cell = $125 atleast

so if you combine all
with lowest limit = you are spending around $1500 ( considering studio apartment)
and
with average = $2000 ( considering 1BR)

So you should have take home salary of atleast $3000 ( considering Rain period and savings...)

Good Luck

No. Not at least for a year, generally - but luck & fate may play a welcome role.

Azmat - This is very subjective and will totally depends which profession you are from and what job you got at first place
some people end up doing $15-$20/hr job and some got full time good start

gaining canadian exp is must so you will not see great deal during 1st two quarter. one thing is sure you should be able to manage your family expenses during first year minus the much savings

Friends if you don't have any loans back home 1500 dollars is enuf to support a family at the basic level..You cannot save anything ..a 1000 bucks for ur housing and amenities and another 500 dollars for ur food and minimal entertainment is sure....but u can live in a nice apartment and have really good food....but u cannot hav a car for sure..

if u get 3000 bucks u can save some money or buy a car..remember buying a car and paying for insurance will minimum take 500 dollars from ur money a month...

as a newcomer you can use public transportation to work..it cost only 120 dollars for the whole month...and the transportation are pretty good and neat. You can wear a suit and go to an interview by train ..u will be as fresh as u went by car...i attended 3 interviews with coat and suit and i traveled by bus and train for all those....no harm..not like in india where u got to go to interview in car or auto. ( i think qorax will agree with this....).

but if both in the family work then u can save some money.....( i cant implement that because i got a small kid to be taken care )

getting jobs are tough as i said in my earlier posts, but it does not mean u will not get any ....but my advice be prepared for some hard times initially....things may not go the way we think..

hope this answers your queries.

I agree on public transportation, very clean and on time always. I did some interviews in 2007, I should have stayed but I returned to Lebanon and then the recession hit, I used the GoTrain, faster than a car and you can even work on a laptop in it. I am thinking no car for the first few months for myself.

hi bro

1- R u in canada?

yes iam in toronto and recently immigrated

2- I have 3 kids, boys age above 12 to 16. As some ppl says Can. Govt. gives Can$250/ to every family for their kids, is it true? if true, will i be able to get? what conditions?

yes govt gives child allowance...it takes 60 days to process..u will get around 200 dollars per child..

3- I dont have any kind of loan but As u said $1500 are enough, what about home rent?

for home rent and utilities be ready to shell out 1000 bucks..

4- what about kids school fees? is it free? till which grade? my elder son is in O level final.

my kid is not old enough to join school..but i know for sure public schhols are free..no need to spend even for uniforms..occasioanlly they get 10-20 dollars for some special activities or picnics etc..thats all...

5- My some friends r in mississauga but i dont want to get their help in any case. is it a expensiva area?

all good areas are expensive..missisauga has lot of indian population..iam in scarborough...which again has got lot of indians..i got lot of pakistani friends at work...so its fully multicultural...no problem..downtown is very expensive..avoid that for the start..missuaga,brampton and scarborugh u will feel at home..

[ CRS gives some child benefit upto child of age 6yrs and after that some tax benefit and again it depends on how much you are earning, don't rely on this]

Qorax, heyy how are you? I dont come to this site often but once i got a shock when i read from people that you quit the forum:p. As you said hard to get jobs with foreign qualification in Canada, does that include US degrees and work experience too? As i have completed most of my studies in US and working as a Licensed Civil engineer in US for last 5 years. i have recently started looking for possibilities in Alberta area. Lets see as i need to move down there soon. However, i am kinda scared to go to canada in winter as in US its still bearable in Texas where i live. Probably i will visit my hometown Kolkata before i head out for canada:)

The Avg Canadian Annual Salary is $2200-2400.

For a newcomer expect to make the Min Wage for starting, ie $10.25/Hr in Ontario. 40 Hrs a week x 4 Weeks... Pls do the maths.

Not that it'd be the norm - but getting higher wages than that should be left to chance & fate. Many do fetch $13-15/Hr as well (in the start).

6 months hence expect $15-17/Hr. By 10-12 months u should be able to make $18-20/Hr usually.
