Automatic Visa Revalidation

Hello,

My US visa expired. My OPT is valid till February 2020
Enrolling into new school from January and sevis transfer date is December 31, 2019

So planning to visit Canada from Dec 21 and re-enter USA on Dec 25

My question is:
Can I re-enter USA with automatic visa revalidation with an expired visa and 1.5 months of valid OPT and I-20?

Hey, could you please share if you had tried entering the US and the AVR?

I am on H1B and my wife is on H4. We both have valid I-797A until 2023, since we got extension recently. However, both of us do not have the visa stamp since we could not travel outside the U.S. We are confused if we can go to the Canada border for the soft landing and come back immediately to the U.S with valid I797 but an expired visa stamp? I read about automatic visa revalidation (AVR) rule but I am not sure if it will apply in this case or not?
