As I have mentioned we have not ruled out Canada. Will have it as backup if we get a PR.
You'd have to choose one at some point, as maintaining both PRs will be tricky. With the canadian PR you have a max. of 3 years of flexibility and then you risk loosing it if you don't reside here permanently.

Thank you for this post! I live in the US and have applied for Canadian PR in March (FSW Outland), but lately it looks like nobody is getting PR in 4 to 5 months. I really want to leave the US and plan to have Australia as a backup. I am going to start working on my application. From starting your process (getting credentialed etc) to getting the PR how many months did it take you?

Yes, I know that. The plan is if Australia did not work well with our family in the initial years we will always have the option to move to Canada. If Australia is perfect for our family we will give up our Canadian PR.

Hi Jairichi,

Since you helping all the folks for Australia PR...

May I request you to please be my consultant for this process. I am more attracted by this process as no POF required :)

I have checked my ANZSCO code. It is 261111: ICT BUSINESS ANALYST. It is the both the list of SOL and CSOL.

Now what to do , please help from where to start?
Once you decide to move with AUS PR you need to apply to concerned assessment agency to get your education and work experience assessed. Unlike Canada you need to have education and occupation related to each other. Otherwise you lose some years of work experience to compensate for education in a different field. There are other ways around it.
Once you have decided between 189 and 190 visa you need to file an "Expression Of Interest" (EOI).
For 189 visa you have to wait for an invitation to apply for a visa and normally there are two invitation rounds every month. The duration to get an invite depends on number of persons in line (with points higher and equal) before you. Point to be noted is each occupation has been allocated a certain number of visas each year. So, if you are a software engineer and 2500 visas are allotted per year then every invitation 120 to 125 invitations will be sent based on higher points ranking.
If you are applying for a 190 visa then after generating an EOI you need to apply to states asking for sponsorship. If they sponsor you then you get 5 points. 190 visa does not go through an invitation process. Once a state sponsors then you will get an invitation to apply for visa.
After you get an invitation to apply for visa lodge your visa application, pay your fees, get your PCC and medicals done and upload all documents. Wait for visa approval.

Unfortunately no for medicals. IELTS general accepted. Validity not 2 but 3 years for Aus immigration.

Well, Australia's SOL list is a little bit tough thing. And even if your occupation is in CSOL, no one can guarantee that it will appear in the states' lists in the closest future unless you have enough high points to be invited under NSW 2 stream or whatever it is called. Besides, even if your profession is on NT's list, think twice to apply, they look very choosy on issuing 190 nominations, usually suggest 489 with number of hidden obstacles such as the disadvantages of temporary residency (no medicare, one needs to live 2 years and work 1 year within the territory to be able to apply for PR). About skills assessment, VETASSESS requires usually 5 years out of last 5 years for +ve outcome in case the education is not relevant, others may also be strict with this part. However looks like financial professions like accountants, auditors could theoretically apply with appropriate assessed education even without a 1-year relevant experience if enough points are claimed as well.

I've been reading this thread over the last day or so. Our case is the opposite of yours. We applied for Oz 189 visa as backup and it came through very efficiently in Dec 2015, just 6 months after start of skills assessment process in June and only 3 months after application date. We did a validation trip right away in Jan 2016 so as to not lose the PR because our entry deadline was short (June 2016).

Right now we're waiting endlessly for this Canada PR and it is excruciating. But we're waiting because Canada is our preferred option. We have weighed pros and cons of both countries and feel we'll be happier in Canada as it ticks more of our boxes when it comes to what we want. But knowing that Oz is also a splendid place and we are technically already permanent residents of that place and waiting for Canada is... very irritating.

I have to say that I was quite impressed with the efficiency and speed of Australian govt processing. We got the PR in almost exactly 3 months after lodging the appln. And I love how everything is online. You don't have to send your passport for unnecessary stamping. Plus, the agents were a lot friendlier and more helpful over the phone when I called Adelaide, my processing office.

Australia is definitely a splendid option for permanent residency but our main worrisome points personally are (a.) It is isolated from the rest of the world. Flights to anywhere take forever! and (b.) Internet commerce is still not as well established in Oz like it is in Canada/US. .... Plus we very much prefer colder climate and snow to hot hotter & hottest! But that's a more minor point I guess.

Thanks Jairichi for detailed steps :)

My graduation is in electrical engineering and working as Business Analyst now from last 5.5 years. Will that be an issue?

If that would be the case, most of the people here will be suffered as for them education and job is not in the same field. What to do in that case?

I am just getting 60 points, if I apply for 190 class with state sponsorship. I have less marks in writing module in IELTS (6.5) :(

How to start assessment for education and job ? Can you please help with some links or reference and whcih agency to be contacted ?

Pardon my silly questions, but I dont know anything about Aus PR process :( :(
