Coming from someone whose occupation is not in demand in Australia, my chances of getting a visa in Canada is higher since they focus on age, language proficiency, work experience and skill adaptability.

Australia favors those occupations in their list. If yours is not included, your chances are close to nil.

In case of Aus PR, if you have less than CLB 9 you get 0 points for English.
Just wanted to correct you. CLB9 means L-8,Rest -7.

In Australia, if one scores 7 in each module then you get 10 points. So 7 bands in listening will also work in Australia. It way better than loosing 50 points in CRS score in Canada if one falls short of CLB9. Also, in Australia even if someone scores less than 7 in any module then points for English will be 0 but still it will not make you ineligible provided one can arrange 60 points in total from other factors. Any score less than 6 bands in any module will result in eligibility not met for Australia.

Great informative thread On Aus PR on Can forum.
So, how Aus is compared to Canada in terms of job opportunities. Specially in IT/Software fields.

I know, said just for the sake of simplicity. IELTS all 7 is almost CLB9.

Reaching 60 without good English is extremely hard, you'd need years and years of experience.

This is the biggest question currently all IT people is having such which country has better job opportunities.

For Canada more than 50% IT companies are in Ontario. there are around 37K companies in Canada call ICT companies.

For Australia around 40% IT industry is in Sydney NSW state. They have lot of testing companies.

Above both are doing highest outsourcing for IT to India :). They both are having more requirement in network and communication engineers.

Thank you Gaurang. I plan to start a MARA registered agency once I move to Australia. It is my spouse who is primary applicant and she is in IT industry. According to her plenty of opportunities are available there. But, the issue is one has to be there in Australia for employers to consider one's application. This is stated by many in forums and blogs. Do not take my word as such and kindly do research by yourself to get a clear idea.

I completely agree with your point that it is a huge investment with respect to applying for Australian PR. Everything depends on
1. what score you have now with Canadian EE ?
2. what are your chances of getting an invite directly through EE or through PNP?
3. your family situation? How long are you willing to wait?

As a family we liked to settle down quickly and decided to go for Australia as it is a quick process. In addition, with an Australia PR one can enter NZ and work without the need for a NZ work permit or visa. For Canada I have 451 points and I am in EE pool. If any date I get an invite directly I will apply for Canadian PR as a backup.
For my case it is reverse I already have ITA for PNP Canada. and I am going to apply for assessment in ACS. I am going to have 60 points for AUS but as ICT in Australia require 70 points for 189 so will wait till the no come.:)

Thanks. But what about R&D centers of big giants like, google, intel, IBM. Do they have presence in Aus? I am sure Canada has. I know there are openings related to network and systems in both countries but what about software development/testing and/or project management?

In terms of labor market, it's just broader in Canada because you can tap into the American labor market fairly quickly. Plus imagine the travels you can do with America and Canada so close to each other.

With Australia, you are close to New Zealand and most other Asian countries...but your primary job market there is still Australia. If their economy tanks (and theirs is not doing so well right now), you're pretty much in a stalemate.

Well, we have our own reasons :) Yes, with 60 points it will be a long wait to get 189 for ICT.

My friend experience of School Teacher for more than 10 years, with IELTS general with each 7 wishes Australian PR. He can apply 189, but assessment needs from AITSL, that shows IELTS Academic with LRWS = 8,7,7,8 respectively. Kindly guide him.

It is clear that your friend has to get the desired scores in IELTS academic to get a positive assessment. A sincere try will surely get him that score.

I agree with this. In addition, Canada has a broader economy (with manufacturing and IT) than Australia (which is still primarily commodities and mining). Ontario just announced that GM will be hiring 1000 engineers for their autonomous vehicle program in GTA and Microsoft announced a Canada Excellence Centre in Vancouver increasing headcount from 300 to 750 development positions. Also, this is from personal experience but all the Canadians that I have met are very friendly and warm people, I can't say so much about the Aussies (this may vary for different folks). I do think Australia is a beautiful country and wouldn't mind living there for few years.
