No, not necessarily. it's going to depend on the visa office and whether the applicant needs a visa to travel to canada. Many visa offices do it differently. Technically, the application can't be "approved" until the RPRF is paid, so i would imagine people won't see DM until at least then. For visa exempt applicants, DM generally means the approval paper has been mailed out, and for those requiring a visa to travel to canada, DM can mean the passport request has been sent/or will be sent.

For visa exempt applicants from Ottawa in the August and September threads, that hasn't really been the case at all. DM came before a PPR e-mail asking for photos, photocopy of passport, annex A, and a prepaid envelope.

Anything other than a return saying I did not send the correct info, or the photos are no good works for me.

Haha, I have this thought too!

I once had my application returned after a month because I forgot to sign in one form!

Yeah the photo thing always worries me as CIC seems to be very particular (much more than US immigration)...on top of that I didn't send in the barcode because it was cut off from my copy and paste >_<

Thanks for the explanation. We have paid all the fees, and he is from a country where a visa would be needed to enter Canada. So now i'm wondering what else it can be. But all the status on ecas mentioned was that it was a document request and to wait until we receive the correspondence to send them what they need.

Fingers crossed, let's hope its all simple stuff that they're requesting. Sigh.. .

I didn't see or send any barcode either in the email.

i'm not surprised. it is likely the new process has changed things. in the past for ottawa, passport request was during "in process" and DM signaled your approval paper was in the mail (or will be the next day). IRCC likes to keep applicants on their toes.

"document request" can be passport request. They won't specify what the request is on ECAS - it is very general. so the only way to know is to wait to see what is sent.

Hey guys!

Its been a while, glad to hear all the good news :)

I went to Visit my wife in Dominican Republic since I couldn't wait any longer to see her lol I received after the trip, on January 20 a message from my VO in Mexico saying they received the application there and and will start processing but on November 14 ECAS showed that the application started processing. Anyways, My wife (PA) checked her ECAS side this morning and it has a fourth line but it went to the second one stating that acknowledgement of receipt on January 20th.

At least I'm calmer now that they're working on it but what would be the next step after this? Thanks in advance and best of lucks for everyone

For everyone that had their background check start in November/December and only got their DM in January - I now know what you guys went through! I've only been waiting 2 weeks but this is agonizing!!!

@#$%^& Reading all this stuff about 'including the barcode' on the passport request. How did I miss this? Ugh!! Wonder if that is the reason that CoPR has still not been sent. Oh I hope what I sent is sufficient. :-[

Yeah same here...however keep in mind the barcode SHOULD be on Annex A not the barcode that comes at the top of the email (the Annex A barcode is the only one that matters) but if you copy and pasted it into Word you omitted the barcode. However keep in mind the barcode just expedites their data entry it doesn't "need" to be on there technically it just means they have to manually enter in your application number rather than simply scan it.

No kidding! I had successfully walked away from all this during Christmas holiday, now I'm back to cruising past the PC every hour, checking to see if you or anyone else has DM. :o

Pahahaha. Yeah. Have you started having dreams yet where you get DM? Because I've had that happen a couple times since the background check started. Vivid ones.

I didn't see any barcode in the email or Annex A.

Anyway, I just got an automatic update thing from mycic, checked it, so from background in progress, now it says, "Final Decision: This application has been approved" and "Application/profile status: Closed"

Maybe someone just did something and mail me back my passport + COPR!
