Yes, changing the civil status from single to married IS NOT mandatory. As long as you provided your marriage certificate as a proof that you are the spouse of each other in the application, it's OK. CIC and the Visa Office understands it's not easy to do the paperworks for changing the civil status and updating into married suname. Anyone who can confirm this?
In my case however, I opted to change into my married surname already before I submitted the application and updated my civil status and other civil documents so that I wouldn't need to change it in the future. And that when the time comes for me to apply for my SIN card and citizenship, there we be lesser headaches for me.
