And yes I believe that you are correct about the travel documents as a local consultant confirmed the same.If you get PPR while abroad you can reply back to that PPR email explaining your situation and can submit your passport to local embassy. I have seen so many posts like that so should not be a problem IMO.
And I don't think so you need to submit any docs for trips after AOR, though I'm not sure.
