Hi Sweden, we are seriously considering booking return tickets mid december and just waiting out the process in canada...do you think its too risky without COPR?? is it better to be honest with customs and let them know were in process or just not say anything to them about our application, not sure if they would have our info in their system...? were really starting to loose our patience and seeing that its gone from 7 to 9 months now, we cant bear to wait much longer, please let me know what you think :)

I think you should be fine - I had no problem through immigration, and it was the same for quite a few people on the London Thread (Seamyb, but also Deficient, Herjeet etc). Just tell them the truth at immigration - I did, and was let in without further questions... I had the sponsorship letter ready, as well an extract of my bank account ( as I had a one way ticket, to prove I could buy a second one if needed), and a proof that I had taken an insurance (for medical costs), but was asked for none of it.... so I don't see any reason not to go, and you can wait out here - but at least you can start settling down in Canada and getting to know surroundings etc.... and close things in your own country with a deadline - your plane ticket, with or without COPR. I don't regret moving here at all.

Your COPR should be there soon too - so if you decide to move, just update your address in Ecas, and you'll get the COPR in Cnada (hoping that mine will be here today!).

Good luck,
Sweden

The information about your application is accessible by the CBSA once sponsorship has been approved, your from a visa exempt country so cross with your spouse and tell them you wish to remain until the process of your application is finished you should have no problems have everything you can with you to prove you have filed, sponsorship approval letter etc...

Hey Creampop, thanks for the info and congrats on recieving COPR!!! Looks like lots of movement for April applicants, getting very exciting ;D

Hi Kaede,

I moved back to Toronto at the end of August with a return ticket to wait it our. I had no issues at immigration. I think you should be fine, just explain your story. I received a DM at the end of last week so hopefully yours is on the way.

Seamyb

Cheers Seamyb, thanks for the info!! Congrats on getting your decision made ;D wont be long now for your COPR...

None,

By the way - glad to see that the interview went well today and that you got the results right away, that's good that you didn't have to wait before hearing again from them etc - well done!

Hey thats great feedback, thanks Sweden! So looks like honesty at customs is the best policy and also bring lots of proof of documents :) Were keen to get settled back in Canada and get apt sorted etc...guess the only drawback as you mentioned on the London forum would be if we were called for an interview would be the extra flight costs... >:(

It is a bit of a drawback - but for EU citizen, interviews are very rare... if you have been living together, or you are common-law for a while, and your partner has never sponsored anybody before, and you have all the proofs, it's unlikely you will be called for an interview (I haven't seen one called for interview from London VO for the last 6 months, if EU background).
If you do get called (which I doubt) then you can always make a trip out of it, go and see friends and family etc... and being able to settle in is quite nice (currently apartment hunting, and started job hunting although technically I'm still a tourist - but I hope that by the time I get an interview, I will have the COPR in hand...).
the other drawback is customs clearance for boxes if you are importing a lot of things. If you don't have too many, it can always be as "returning canadian" for your partner... otherwise you might consider delaying shipping things - but most of the time it takes at least a month from the UK/Ireland to Canada, so you also have time for that...
Good luck with packing etc!

Coming back here after a while away. My wife landed on Nov. 10th after super fast 6 month process via Hong Kong. The landing was fast too, just 20 minutes filling out stuff, answering questions, etc.
Now that she has landed, the next thought comes up of what if she wants to go back before she receives her permanent Residents card. Guess i have to send it to her or we get a returning resident permit.
Good luck to all.

Congrats on the landing, I hopefully will land either saturday or monday (depending on when the post brings my COPR...) and update here!
