Approved Online Visitor Visa: Passport Return Times

I am in LA and applied visitor Visa for me and my wife on 27th June. It was submitted on same day. Waiting for any update from them.
I am checking status on MyCIC 2-3 times a day. Will it ALWAYS send mail, if there is any update or should I keep checking it frequently ? I am little worried as my vacation date is on 17th July to Canada. (May be I need to reschedule).

Sounds like yours is a bit tight. Good luck! Did you request your visa to be processed faster?

I mailed passports of my wife & mom to NY VAC for stamping after I saw an update on MyCIC for passport request. Here's my timeline:

June 21 (Saturday) - Applied online and got 'Confirmation of Online Application Transmission' & 'Submission Confirmation' messages on MyCIC the same day.
Note: In the Purpose of Travel document, I requested to expedite the Visa process as my mom is leaving the US on August 2nd. Attached a copy of her flight ticket.
June 24 (Tuesday) - Got Passport Request letter / message on MyCIC
June 25 - Mailed passports, fees (M.O), passport request letter to VAC NY / PO box
June 27 - VAC NY received the passports per USPS tracking, however, VAC did not provide any tracking # via e-mail or phone.
July 2 - Called VAC at (646) 741-0130 to inquire.
They said the passports were handed over to Consulate on July 2nd (i.e., today) for stamping and it takes 1-2 weeks to get them back.
They also gave tracking #'s for both applications.

Hi, I sent my passport to NY Consulate. I did include a USPS Priority Mail(Regular) envelope and my address label. I didn't get any tracking number for that mail and as I said in my last post... I got a email from the embassy said that "Your application has been finalized and your passport was returned to you via sase priority mail (no trk#) on June 19, 2014." I don't know why and I am really really in deep panic now because I really need my passport back... do you know if there is any way I could contact someone in the embassy and figure out the tracking number for my passport? Or I would be more than happy to go to the embassy and pick it up by myself...

Tracking or not, you should have received the passport by now unless it was delivered to a wrong address? Even if postage is less USPS should deliver and collect the balance from you.

If you can, do visit the NY Consulate but not really sure how they can help if they already mailed out the passport. You could call both the USPS closest to you and also the consulate, but they do ask for a USPS tracking # before they can investigate.

hydguy, I have not requested to do it fast, but I attached my scanned flight ticket which shows that my travel date is 17th July. I hope, they should consider. Lets see, orelse I will need to reschedule my flight (with some rescheduling fees).

your are right , i check the return envelope tracking and it shows that delivery has been started.
i asked them by email and they responded that i can send passports to NY consulate directly
really this is the worst consulate ever

@abudahim, did you address any specific recipient when mailing to Canada Consulate? Or just attn to "Consulate General of Canada in New York"?

My passport was received by the NY consulate on jun27. Before sending last week I had called up the VAC office twice and they categorically said that you CAN send the passport directly to the consulate. However, on Jun30, when I called them again, they spoke about a memo circulated last week saying that the NY consulate is no longer accepting passports directly and that my passport would be returned without stamp only to be submitted through the VAC. He was truly remorseful about it.
I am hoping to at least get the passport back asap either ways. They are really only living up to their expectations of a govt org. Jul 01 being a holiday for them I guess we have no choice but to wait and email them at the minimum.

@canadan_visitor, did you address any specific recipient when mailing to Canada Consulate? Or just attn to "Consulate General of Canada in New York"? Have you got back your passport? If yes, when?? Thanks for sharing your info!!

I am planning to send my passport this Saturday to consulate in NYC. I have a trip scheduled on 17 July. Not sure if a window of 7 business days will be enough...

Husband Online Application, Canadian Embassy in Mexico.

Applied Online: June 15th
Passport Request: June 17th
Passport Received Canadian Embassy in Mexico: June 23rd
Case Closed Visa Approved in My CIC Account: June 27th

He is still waiting for passport return DHL return airway bill is not activated yet.
His flight from Mexico to Canada is on the 10th July he is coming to pick our daughter and take her to Mexico for a celebration on the 12th.
We are not sure if he is gonna make it on time

I applied online on 27th and it was submitted same day. I can see from many threads here that passport request message came in few days only.
Do I need to send some mail to anybody or any follow can be done ? Today is 4th July holiday and then weekend, so there will be no update till 7th July. It will become 10 days since I applied. My status is still OPEN. I am in LA.

There are no updates as of now.

July 4 - Application Status is Closed on MyCIC
July 8 - Per USPS tracking, VAC mailed both of my passports via USPS return envelope

Your current application status is Application Processing Completed - In Transit to the Applicant from the VAC

hydguy, your application was processed fast. I applied on 27th June and still waiting for any update on that. I have sent a mail also to few mail id's and got a reply saying "Your application is in progress"
