Applying Work Permit while waiting for LMIA Approval, does it work?

Hello Everyone!
I am an international student here in Canada finished the program of Health Care Assistant, my employer lodge their LMIA application (in home caregiver) last April 30, 2024 and the status up till now is “queued for assessment”.
My problem is my visa status will expire on August 2024 this year and I am afraid that the LMIA approval will not happen before my expiry date. Someone told me that you can apply for Work Permit by providing proofs such as LMIA receipt and copy of LMIA application then by the time the approval comes you can just update your status. Is this true? Did somebody had experience with this? What is the best thing to do? I am freaking out

Hi,

I know that you can apply without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) if your work permit expires within 2 weeks of the date that you apply.

I think it is the same for the visa holders.

Have you finished your program? You can try and submit work permit with copy of application later. If refused, then reapply with approved LMIA.

Hi, I am in the same situation. Still waiting for the LMIA approval but my permit will expires Nov 2024. Have you received your LMIA before August or did you apply for work permit while waiting for your LMIA approval?

Hi... Me too I'm in the same situation.
Applied LMIA in mid April.
WP expired in July and applied for extension added LMIA application as supporting documents. Still no update on WP ext or LMIA approval.
Did you get any update.

I am currently in a similar situation. I applied LMIA and work permit application before the expiry of my existing one. Later, uploaded the LMIA approval to my work permit application and now waiting for approval of work permit!

when you applied for a work permit and was asked if you have a valid LMIA, did you answer "yes" or "No, but my employer requested one" since you didn't have the LMIA approval yet.

congrats. im in the same situation. paid fees july15th. owp expiring October. so, after applying extension can i work with any employer because lmia is still under process? or i have to work with the employer there in lmia application. I'm confused. thank you in advance plz guide me

after extension are you working with the employer whom you applied lmia. or u are working with another employer?
