I applied when the requirement was 1095 days of residence and the relevant time period was four years, total 1460 days. I applied with over 1400 days of actual physical presence (buffer well over 300 days), but that was also well over a year and a half beyond the date I initially passed the 1095 day threshold, just that I continued to travel abroad. (In other words, I was eligible and could have applied more than 500 days sooner than I did. But my margin at the time of applying was around 320 or so days.)

That is NOT a good example for how long anyone else should wait. Indeed, how long to wait is a very personal decision which is best made depending on the particular circumstances, including history, for the specific person applying.
Thanks for your extremely detailed reply.

I'm also self-employed... although I do have a good number of Canadian clients... have filed corporate tax returns as well as paid GST/HST....

Thanks for letting me know about the travel... it looks like I'm applying with 1.5 months of buffer... and I do have a good amount of travel history (mainly in the winters). I also have the passport I've been using so when I do need to go in for an interview... I'll have that ready.

Will it count against me if I travel after I send in my ciitzenship application (provided I do reply to all correspondence in a timely manner).

There is no restriction on traveling while the application is pending. Only disadvantage, as you allude, is the possibility of being abroad when there is short notice for something. (I went abroad multiple times, longest was about two weeks, while my application was pending; but once it got to the six month mark I would have been nervous about going abroad except for the day or overnight to the U.S., and for good reason: I received notice of my interview by mail barely two weeks before it was scheduled, and then I also received a telephone call from IRCC, ostensibly to verify I would show for the interview. If I missed those the process would have almost certainly taken a lot longer.)

Living abroad . . . or for those who are abroad for an extended duration but in denial about that constituting living abroad . . . is a different story, a more complicated story.
