Applying for work permit extension/renewal at Canadian/US border

I am going to do the same thing. I am NOT from visa-exempt country, and my WP will be expired at the end of this month. I possibly will get a positive LMO from a new employer next week. I want to go to the border and apply for the new WP, but would the border server reject me to come back Canada, since my work permit will be expired in a few days?

The laws I quoted clearly say that you are allowed to reenter as long as the work permit has not expired. You can call the CBSA office where you are trying to cross to verify the information.

When you renewed your WP, how long did you get left befor the old WP expired?
If I cannot get my work permit on time (before my current WP expire), then I cannot apply for a new WP at the POE, can I?

My permit was valid for two more months.

No you won't be able. You have to be visa exempt to apply for a new work permit at the POE. Some of the ways to be visa exempt:
- Passport from a visa exempt country
- Reentering Canada after a visit to the US while holding a valid WP

They accept cash, debit, mastercard and visa credit cards.

It's always good to carry cash anyways in case you lose your card or the card payment network is down.

Hello 'MasterGeek'. I wanted to know the Process on how you did get the WP at the POE with expired TRV. I am currently in Montreal, QC. Please let me know what is the best POE to visit? Below are few of the information regarding my situation.

1. I have OWP (valid till March 2014) and my TRV expired (July 2012). I donot have the US Visa. I am planning for Flagpole.
2. I have my LMO from my employer. I want to get CWP.

You flagpoll like any standard flagpole procedure. When you exit Canada and reach US customs, you tell them that you want to enter the US in order to go back to Canada for immigration procedures. They will give you an official paper telling that you were refused entry to the US (because you don't have a legitimate reason to enter the US, even if you had a US visa), this paper also serves as a proof that you exited Canada and will be requested by Canadian immigration agents. When you go back to Canada the border agents will let you in based on your non expired work permit and you returning from a visit to the US. They are familiar with the procedure and they will direct you to an immigration agent who will process your new work permit.

1. I see that updates from Quebec. Please advice which POE you went to for processing the workpermit?
2. As you can see, I my current owp is valid until march 2014. Will there be any chances of rejection of me entering back to Canada if I say I crossed the border to get my WP processed at border? Just want to make sure that they will allow me into Canada.

In my work permit there is a stamped that says 'This does not authorize re-entry? Is this means that i cant re-enter canada after travelling from ireland?

you'll need a valid visa sticker on your passport in order to travel back to Canada.

NO! You'll have to do it thru Vegreville. You need to apply for the restoration and WP at the same time. Visa is thru Ottawa, once you have your new WP.

They advised to apply for restoration of status and new wp. That process will last 5-6 months according to CIC call center. Do you think I 'd be able to get new WP at the POE being from visa-exempt country?

Did you get your work permit extended? Mine case might be going to be the same as you. I got pnp nomination and applied for my work permit. But I made one mistake - under current status I put worker but put the wrong dates in to and from column. I hope they don't refuse my work permit but if they did. Will I be able to go to US and Canadian Border and restore my WP? I have valid multiple entry visa or stamp or TRV whatever we call it. Will I be able to re enter Canada evenif my work permit is expired. I am under implied status right now.

Please advise.

My visa is already expired. I had a working holiday visa for 2 years. During that time I got a CSQ (basically means LMIA exempt). It arrived 2 days after my visa expired. My employer wants to keep me and gave me an offer of employment letter. She paid the employer compliance fee and I have a job offer number. Can I go to the border to get a new work permit? I tried at the airport on reentry as I had to return home but they guy was having none of it. Please help!
