Applying for Visitor Extension

Hi guys, so I will give full background on our situation before I ask my question. I am sponsoring my american spouse (outland) to move to Canada. App was received May 2021 and has been in queue to be finalized with no updates since the beginning of May 2022.. frustrating. Everything is completed. Anyways, my spouse came with me to Canada as a visitor at the end of January and has been here since then. Basically in May 2022 he was granted a temporary 3 month work contract and so his status was switched from visitor to worker. This will be valid until August 23rd. What we were hoping of course was that he would be granted PR before the end of his contract and while it could still happening, we are nearing closer and closer to the expiry of his work permit. Considering he was previously a visitor and has used up most of the 6 months he was allowed, we want to apply for an extension for him to stay in Canada longer, mostly to hopefully buy us some more time before he is granted PR and get implied status. Basically my question is, do we check off "extend my status as a visitor" or :"restore my status as a visitor" or both??? He of course did not stay past the allowed time in Canada as his permit hasnt expired yet. We will need to send this off by Saturday to have it sent in prior to 30 days before expiration.

Also, can the IMM5475 and IMM5476 be signed electronically? Or do i have to print and sign those?

How did he get a WP and did he get the WP before his visitor status expired?

He was offered a contract and obtained a WP through the company in which the permit qualified for a LMIA exemption. He got it before his visitor status expired. he entered in January and wasnt given an exit date, so i assume it must have been 6 months since hes american. he exited the country in May by flagpoling and re-entered to obtain the work permit.
