Applying for study permit while having valid visitor visa - help

Hello everyone
Greetings,

I am already confused and your help is much appreciated.
Both I and my wife have already multiple entry visitor visas. Recently, I got admitted to a reputed university. My plan is to apply for a study permit, however, I am not still clear about the followings:

1. Since my wife has already a valid visitor visa, can/should I apply again for her alongside my study permit application? In another word, is her temporary visa as the spouse of an international student would be different from that as a visitor?

2. If I do not apply for an open work permit for her, is it necessary for her to extend her stay every six months or is she allowed to stay as long as my study permit is valid?

3. As mentioned, I already have a valid visitor visa, should I again give biometrics for a study permit too? If no, how can I indicate that on the online application form?

4. Finally, Our visas and passports are going to expire next year. I decided to get a new passport which would be valid for the next five years. Is it OK to apply for new visas while our previous visas are still valid?

The main difference would be that she would NOT be able to work while in Canada, at least not legally.

Other than that, the maximum time she can be in Canada will also be different...

I would recommend you to apply again (work or TRV) so that she can stay for as long as your studies last.

And yes, you can apply again while your visas are still valid.

As for the biometrics, I don't think they would be necessary again. They will notify you if they are required.

Thank you so much for your help. Thus, Based on your instruction, I would apply again for my wife and myself with our new passports. Many thanks. Also, If my wife decides to work after arriving in Canada, I assume she can apply again for an open work permit? Am I right?

You cannot change your status from Visitor to international student from inside Canada. You can, however apply from outside Canada

You need to apply for a study permit; you are not accompanying anyone who has status.

As your wife already has a TRV and doesn't want an OWP, there is no need for her to apply for anything.

A TRV has nothing to do with status in Canada. That is granted by CBSA when entering.

When entering, CBSA will most likely grant her visitor status for the length of your study permit. If not, she will need to apply to extend her stay.

Again, your wife doesn't nees to apply for anything.
