I live in the United State and don't know any Canadians here. I wanted to use my sister who is an MD and US citizen as a guarantor. I know this is allowed, using form PPTC140 instead of the usual PPTC153.
My question is - are there any risks going this route considering it is likely not usual these days. I would prefer to use my sister as it would be hard to physically get the photo, ID and form signed by a Canadian Passport holder, as everyone such person who knows me for more than 2 years lives in Toronto.
PS - Interestingly I learnt, prior to 2016 ALL guarantors HAD to be occupational (hold valid license in certain occupations such as doctor, lawyer etc). It was only after a change in 2016 that eligibility for being a guarantor opened up to all adult Canadian passport holders.
