Applying for a WHV for an Australian Citizen

Hey all!

Super new to this process! I've been searching on the forums but can't find the answers I'm looking for in relation to Australians.
So here is my scenario and Qs..
I am applying for a working holiday visa to Canada and am an Australian Citizen. I have started to apply through IEC and am just waiting for them to say I am 'eligible'. I have paid the fee, scanned in my passport and resume and am now just waiting for them to get back to me.

First Question: I am super concerned that the resume had to be in a certain format. I am an idiot and didn't read the line that said this before I submitted my resume. My resume does follow the template, however I haven't put under each job that it was in Brisbane, QLD Aust - rather I just have the suburbs listed. It clearly states on my resume where I am from but I am worried they are going to reject my application because of this. Do you think they will? I hope I haven't already ballsed it up!!!!

In the mean time, I understand that a police check may be needed in the next stage under the 'My CIC' section.

Second Question: Do all applications that are done online now need a police report? Should I order one of these now to save time waiting around for it to arrive? I'm assuming I don't need finger prints, just the standard National Name Check? I believe this is done through the federal police..

Third Question: Is there any other documents I can start preparing in the mean time that you guys know I'll need?

Forth Question: I am wanting to book flights for the end of May this year. Do you think this will give me enough time to get my visa?

You guys are amazing. I have seen how helpful you have been to others on the site, so hopefully some of my questions can be answered!!

Not sure how fussy they are about the format but I think you will be okay. Be extra careful with immigration matters. If worst come to worst you will need to re apply but Aus has a lot of places left so you wil be okay.

Yes, It is required and is also required from every other country that you have lived in for more then 6 months since you turned 18. So start getting them ready too.

you dont need finger prints but just police check as indicated above. If you have lived in VIC and QLD you will also need to attach a driving history report too so get theta organised too.

Third Question: Is there any other documents I can start preparing in the mean time that you guys know I'll need?

Start filling out all the forms as required in the check list. Create your account in my CIC and create a checklist. It will clearly indicate all what you need. I thin you need a digital photo, you need few forms , passport scanned copy etc and a letter that you will get once you are apporved for the first step in IEC

Forth Question: I am wanting to book flights for the end of May this year. Do you think this will give me enough time to get my visa?

Well it all depends on your application. I would suggest not to book any flights until you get the visa but if you complete the online application to CIC nicely and clearly you should get an approval very soon. Make sure u attach all the documents so they dont come back and ask for anything. I fot my first conditional letter in 2 days though compass and my work permit in 24 hours. Hope this helps

What part of Australia are you in ? I am also going on IEC from Australia in next 2 weeks . I would also suggest that you start looking for Insurance. I bought 24 months insurance from Down Under and paid $2199. It is one of the condiitons of the visa to have 24 months of insurance.

Yell out if you have any questions.

Thanks for the speedy answers confusedimmigrant - they were exactly what I was after!

If I only intend to be staying there for 9 months, is it possible just to buy 9 months of insurance and still be granted the visa? Clearly I wouldn't be granted the 24 months, but can they give you other specified periods of time with the working holiday visa? I have been given a quote from Southern Cross Travel Insurance - 9 months is $719. However.. if I decided to stay for longer, is it easy to extend the visa (up to the 24 months) by showing that you can buy more insurance? I guess I just don't want to spend money on insurance that I won't need if I'm not going to be in Canada for that long.

Also, it's definitely only $2500 you need in savings isn't it? - If I buy more insurance that will root my savings!

I'm in Brisbane at the moment and am looking to go over to Canada as soon as possible.. no idea where I'm going to base myself yet but very excited for the opportunity! I am wanting to do a contiki tour on the 1st of June to show me around Canada a bit.. so hopefully my visa application goes well! I started with IEC on the 24th of Feb and am just waiting to be accepted. Hopefully its not too much longer.
