Hi All,

We live in India and are applying for the FBI certificate. So far, we have got my wife and my finger printing done from a forensic lab on the FD258 fingerprinting card.

I have a few questions.
  1. In section "Mail Results to Address" of I-783 application form: a) what address should I enter - does it have to be my resident address in India, or can I give a trusted friend's address staying in the US? b) I read somewhere that the FBI does not send out the report to an Indian address - is that true?
  2. I have used a bit of a whitener on the FD258, is that alright?
  3. Although I live in India, I still have a US credit card? Can I use that to pay the $18?
  4. I am applying for the FBI report along with my spouse. I know I have to fill up two application forms along with 2 $18 payments, but do I need to send this separately or can I send them together?

Thanks in advance.

Hello ramanan,

  1. In section "Mail Results to Address" of I-783 application form: a) what address should I enter - does it have to be my resident address in India, or can I give a trusted friend's address staying in the US? b) I read somewhere that the FBI does not send out the report to an Indian address - is that true? The result which u need from fbi muat be ur address , they wil mail to any address no matter where it is through usps normal courier.

  1. I have used a bit of a whitener on the FD258, is that alright? Uoto my knowledge u cantbuse any whitner or correction on the fingerprint paper, coz it will be feedeed to computer scanner and if any correction it xant read. So my advise no
  2. Although I live in India, I still have a US credit card? Can I use that to pay the $18? If your cc is valid u ca still use, since u from India u may try using draft its safer (i used draft). Coz at any moment sometime if cc payment get failed u have to resend again.
  3. I am applying for the FBI report along with my spouse. I know I have to fill up two application forms along with 2 $18 payments, but do I need to send this separately or can I send them together? Y can clubbed together and mention that u have added the fee for both application.

I have answered upto my knowledge.

Cheers

For everyone's benefit, I spoke to the FBI Customer care (who by the way were extremely polite and helpful unlike the IRS) and have the answers to the above questions:

1. If you live outside of the US, they recommend the applicants to provide a US mailing address (friends/family). In I-783, add the C/O as the friend/family and keep the ATTN as blank. But if you don't have one and would like to provide a foreign (outside of the US) address, that is also fine
2) Bit of whiteners are fine
3) All credit cards, as long as they work, are fine
4) Place both of them in the same folder and send it to the FBI

I got my fingerprints in Mumbai Police Fingerprint Section at Fort on 29-Aug-2017, and sent to FBI via courier. Made a mistake for them to send the PCC back to my home address somewhere in central India . Application received at FBI Office on 07 Sep 2017 and application was processed on 13-Dec-2017 (Credit Card charged on 13-DEC-2017) Credit card is American Express Blue from USA.

PCC dispatched from FBI on 15-dec-2017 but finally received in India on 18 Jan 2017, in very bad shape. Envelope is of Yellow color and when I received the envelope it was all crushed in a ball shape after being wet. Had to iron it before even attempting to take out the PCC letter otherwise would have torn it. The letter almost got holed from abuse. The yellow of the envelope was transferred to the letter. I had to iron it and keep it under two heavy glass panes for 3 days. Finally had to request FBI to send a second copy but this time to a trusted friend in USA. The USA copy was receieved on the day 4 of the the second request.

My advise is that if you have a trusted friend in USA, Please positively ask FBI to send the letter there. It does not matter which address you listed as original address. you can send a second email to them and they are helpful in changing the destination address. Its faster and much safer. Good luck !
