Hi guys,

my partner sponsored me last year and we are still waiting for my application to be processed. It will take another 7 months I assume, considering the current processing times. I'm currently under a work and holiday visa already in CA but this visa will run out in like 2 weeks. I tried to get the second year but I'm only in the waiting list. Its so annoying and we dont really know what to do now. But we will try to stay together in CA until I get my permanent residency.
I need to apply for a tourist visa now in case the 2nd work and holiday doesnt work out. Does anyone know how to do that? I saw there is a way to do it online, but someone told me it is better to do visa mail. Does anyone have experience with that and where and how to apply for that?

Thanks

Hi

The paper application is here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp.

For an online app, start here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/my_application/apply_online.asp?d=1&q=n

Neither way is really worse than the other. Some people advise to apply by mail because it takes longer to process; it gives them more time in Canada if the extension is refused in the end. For you, there is little chance of a refusal, so online would just be easier. Include proof of the PR app and proof that you have the finances to support your extended stay.

I applied online and received my visa 10 days later by mail. This was in the end of January. Processing times are really quick at the moment

Ok, thanks for the info. Would that visa be the right one, the visitor visa (temporary resident)?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp

Should I use the myCIC which I had from my work and holiday and then go from there?
I think I have at least 6 months until I get permanent residency, so should I ask for 7 or 8 months to be safe?
What would happen if I do the visa online and it is not mailed to me by the time my work and holiday runs out? This would be exactly in 2 weeks, the 25th of march.

No. I included the correct links in my previous post.

If you apply online, I believe you can use the same myCIC account.

You can ask for a year, just to cover your bases.

If your WHV expires before you hear from CIC, you will be on Implied Status, allowing you to legally stay in Canada until a decision is made on your extension app. You must stop working when your WHV expires.

ok thanks !!!!

I think I would go crazy if I cant work for a whole year :) This whole immigrating this is just so frustrating.

Do they give more than 6 months easily, I feel like 6 months is always a maximum for tourist visas?
I'm also wondering how much money do you have to have that there are ok with that?

From my experience and what I heard from other people, I'm so worried about making any mistake with the application. I went through the questionnaire and clicked on the part that I did a medical in the last 12 months. Unfortunately I don't have any documents from the medical anymore as I send that with my PR sponsorship application. I think they require that I upload something for that as well. I wonder what I can do about that. I don't want to get refused because of a missing document or something.

They quite frequently give a year or even more to those in Canada being sponsored by their partners. It is fine to ask for a year and I doubt there will be any issue with it. For the money aspect, there is no exact amount that you should show; if you don't have much in the way of savings, include proof of your partner's income as well. If your partner's income isn't very high, consider including a letter from family (yours or his or both) stating that they will financially support you if needed.

For a visitor, a medical is only needed for those who've spent 6 months or more in certain countries in the year immediately prior to the expected entry into Canada. From what I know, you've been in Canada for over a year now, so a medical shouldn't be necessary. If it asks you for proof when you apply, upload a letter explaining that you have been in Canada for X time and did an immigration medical with Dr. XX on X date for your PR app but have no document from the doctor for it because that needed to be included in your PR app.

Thanks I'll do that.

I'm just having some problems filling out the
"Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Visitor or Temporary Resident Permit Holder (IMM 5708)"
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5708E.PDF

because there are a few things that are not clear to me.

Question 3 for e.g: Which of the following ones am I applying for?
A:an extension of a temporary resident status
B:an initial or extension of a temporary resident permit
C:a restoration of your status as a visitor.

I would guess B: as I never applied for this visa before but is there an explanation somewhere?

I found only this guide but It doesn't say much to most questions

It's A. You are now a temporary resident (worker) and you will extend your stay as a temporary resident (visitor)

Hi,
I have a question in same subject, so i will use this topic I think. If I apply for extending my visa (I'm on IEC, so it would become visitor visa only), can I leave Canada and go back? can I apply a bit earlier than 30 days before it ends? let's say 2 months? I will have to go to my country in October (family and work and studies stuff), so I'd rather have it done earlier, cuz I will not be in Canada a month before my IEC expires.

best,
Ashia

Looking at your previous posts, you're Polish. I'm going to assume that you have a biometric passport and are therefore visa-exempt to Canada.

You aren't required to submit your extension app 30 days before. You can actually submit it up to the day before your current permit expires.

If you apply to extend your stay as a visitor and then leave Canada while it is processing, the app is essentially cancelled. If you apply early, the extension is approved and you then leave Canada, the extension ceases.

Your options depend on what your status will be when you return to Canada. If your IEC is still valid, you can enter on that and then submit your change of status and extension app. If your IEC has expired, you will just enter as a visitor and most likely receive the standard 6 months.
