hi Steph, so happy for you!

I HAVE GOOD AND BAD NEWS, the good news is my husband came to visit me and he's here nd i also got a bonus at work for job well done.
bad news is we have been send a refusal letter from the embassy stating that my husband and i were married while his diforce wasn't settled yet? and giving an aption to appeal.

of course we will be appealling, but now i see why i coudnt check status anymore...how long will it take us again? i know $3100 needed to appeal

I am so sorry about the outcome, there is no need to blame anyone right now. Just put in the appeal as soon as possible. I hope everything go well soon. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that news :-(. What is their main issue...that you married in SA when your husband was still married in Canada? If so, will the appeal change anything? Maybe you need to annul your marriage n do it again when he is divorced, then get another marriage certificate and reapply? I don't know! Try posting in the 1st topic n maybe some senior members will have better advice?! Am sure it will all work out! Enjoy your time with your husband!!

Hi Guys, I am in the process of applying for immigration to Canada. My wife and I submitted our application forms to a agent last year November. She advised that the quota for 2011 had been met, so she would send our application in July 2012. We just got a mail from her now saying that canada has put a hold on all applications till January 2013 . Is there any way of getting my application in sooner? Help Please.

I'm so sorry to hear that news. I can only imagine how hard this can be. I wish you all the best in your appeal. I think you could ask for legal advice to know whether it is better to appeal or re-apply.
Despite this setback, enjoy your time with your husband while his there.

They gave me a phone call and they did the same for most people on this forum. There is no need to panic, PPR is as good as having your visa. If you it's longer than they promised, you should send them an email.

hi steph , sweetmine and Joseph... thanks for your support in this regard, my husband has sent an email to his lawyers and we will seek legal advice before doing anything...steph my husband has been separated with his ex wife since 2006 if am not mistaken, they settled everything in 2010 before we got married the same year...my question remains, how can the officers at immigration in canada M accept his sponsorship then if this would be a problem in SA? i mean they had our marriage certificate and all the legal paper from the separation to where it is now?? the only problem was that the ex wife's lawyer did not apply for the divorce certificate well on time for God knows what reason??? why should we be penalized for someone else's wrong doing??? i must say this whole thing brought some strain on our marriage and the thing that helped was prayer and love...steph where must i post for help again???? thanks again...PS MY hubby is still here, so i am trying not to think too much of this sad situation....

ohh...i don't know! eek! but I think the officers looking at our files just go by what is on paper, they don't care what explanations one may have - so I guess s/he would just look at the dates and documents and see that the divorce wasn't legally finalized or the certificate wasn't dated as such, and you got married while he was still "married" in their eyes? I don't know. Any way they can find holes in your case and they will - probably in their words, your marriage isn't "bona fide" as that seems to be the technical word they like to use. I hope your lawyer can come up with some solution, I'm sure s/he will! It's basically a small technicality and you just need someone with the "know how" to figure it out for you. all the best of luck and enjoy your time with hubby!! =)

Hi Everyone:

Just joined the conversation. The support in this stream is great. I hope I can participate.

My husband and I married in Cape Town Feb 2012 and I will be sponsoring him to join me in Canada. We spent the last 5 months preparing our documents. We are ready to submit everything to mississauga however ran into our first hiccup. My husband has three police clearances, one from SA, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. I just read today in the CIC guide, that the police clearances have to issued in the last three months from the date of submission. Since my husband's Zim and Namibia police clearances were issued in May 2012, and are older than three months (just barely) we have to get them redone. Since my husband is in SA, this is probably gonna take another month! So sad. We thought we were ready to submit. Oh well, just have to keep positive. The application process is so hard and discouraging, you almost think that is the point of it. The CIC website says processing time in Pretoria is 25 months? That really makes me despair. How has other people's timelines been like? Is it really gonna take that long?

Silver lining, I'll be heading back to SA in two weeks time to visit my husband. That should give us some renewed energy.
