Dear friends please guide-
i have been awarded COPR last month and I intend to move in the month of may.
I have a son who is 15 year old and a 4 year old daughter who i legally adopted from a orphanage. in her passport also i am her father and her DOB was decided by the court as her actual DOB was not known.
In my immigration application i have not mentioned that she is adopted child. Some of my friends told me that i should have mention it in my application. I am not aware if any such event needs to mentioned I am worried what should i do.

Hi Yogi,

I agree with sonir. I appreciate the act of adopting a kid and welcome her to join your family. Now, Lets come to the fact.

1) I dont know much about the application form in India. What you can do is look in the form and see if there is any question that asks about adoption.

2) Another point to note is, By the time you have applied for PR the kid is already your daughter legally.

Now, If there is no place in the form that says "did you adopt any kid", I say you are absolutely fine. As far as, I remember there is no such question in the form. Please double check. If there is any such, I would contact a lawyer immediately.

Both cases, you are still fine because of the 2nd point I mentioned above.

Thanks,
satya.

Dear Satya
thanks for your reply. it has boosted my confidence. as per Indian law is concerned I have no problem. but my worry is Canadian system because I am not aware and that's a matter of concern. Just to brief you-
my daughter XXX was adopted from a government orphanage with complete legal formality about three years ago and the English translation of court-order in this regard says " XXX will be referred as the natural born daughter of Mr. AAA and Mrs BBB ( me and my wife)", As the the date of birth of XXX was not known , the court also fixed the date of birth of XXX based on doctors ( orphanage) approximation of her age at the time of her arrival at the orphanage. The court order clearly instructed The district health officer to issue Birth Certificate mentioning me and my wife as parents and XXX as natural born daughter and 00-00-0000 as her date of birth. The government has used this court order to issue the birth certificate. The court orders ware also used for issuance of passport.

Yogi

You have no problem, for all intent and purposes she is your natural born daughter and you have no issues whatsoever with any countrys' law - including Canada.

God bless you for giving a home to a child - gods gift.

Peace!!
