Well all the lawyers I have interracted with (Goldman and also Dennis Brazolot are two that spring to mind, but have met several others at fairs) have all given the impression of just being in it to squeeze as much money out of you as possible.

When we saw Brazolot prior to the new rules coming out, when we thought we would have to get a job offer and go FSW2, they were going to charge us £7000 to get a visa. If he completely FAILED to get us the visa he would still charge £1500!

Just couldn't see what value he would be adding, and am very glad we decided now to do it ourselves.

May I ask why you decided to go via a lawyer rather than doing it all yourself?

Wayne.
I was badly stung when I applied for British Permanent Resident Visa a few years back by myself. They refused me on a technicality that a lawyer told me later wasn't right. I've had to live with the decision because, even now, I'm still a temporary resident of the UK. My work experience spreads through many companies and countries and I did not want to have to deal with sorting all that out. All work experiences and residencies are legit though. This Canada move is also my last bit of moving. It is final and I was not willing to chance failure. If it fails then that's it, no more moving for me. I believe my decision is driven by a previous bad experience. My lawyer so far has been excellent. No complaints.

Who says we are fighting? We are just having a mature discussion.
Isn't it Wayne. Tell the Dr he won't have to treat any injuries when this is over. No punches are being thrown.

OK that's nice to hear :) No doubt there are a few good lawyers out there, and for cases such as yours which are not completely straightforward they may well be worth it. But from my personal experience so far the bad/greedy lawyers tend to outnumber the good ones!

Anyway glad your current lawyer is working out, best of luck for the process!

Wayne.

Ok guys, let me give a clear pic of this fees thing :).

While, sending your initial application to the CIO, you are required to pay the below.

Other classes of applicants - Skilled Workers, Provincial Nominees

Principal applicant $550.00
A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older,
or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner $550.00

A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age
and is not a spouse or common-law partner $150.00

The above is the processing fees and will be refunded up until your application receives a PER from CIO. This fees is to be paid for ALL applicants included in the application.

Next there is another fee called the Right to Permanent Residence fee(RPRF), this has to be paid only if your application is approved and the BD/CC is usually en-cashed only when they are ready to stamp the passports.

Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) $490.00

This fee is payable by principal applicants (with the following exceptions) and accompanying spouses and common-law partners. It must be paid before the immigrant visa is issued overseas or before the applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada.

Exceptions:

* dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild; and
* protected persons, including Convention refugees

The Right of Permanent Residence Fee for immigrants (RPRF) will be refunded for unsuccessful immigrant applications or for those who withdraw or otherwise abandon immigration to Canada before the visa has been used.

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Hi Indira - no problems at all :) Doesn't matter if it takes a few days, we just need to communicate with each other so we know what we've done and what we've not done. Will give those marked in red a chance to get themselves unredded (is there such a word as unredded or did I make that up? :)) before I move them to the inactive users tab.

Please let me know if you are struggling for time and I can do the other half as well, but will probably have to wait a day or two.

Cheers,
Wayne.

DarKnight,
I am the youngest applicant (aged 27), who never ever fares to travel alone along the road to canada, though the path is dark when it is night.
Make sense? :D
