Hi Everyone! .. I am a Pakistani citizen, applying for visa from Saudi Arabia. I am just wondering what is the reason behind the long processing time, especially while applying from Pakistan? Is it because of the lack of staff or huge number of applicants? Or is it because a lot of background check is done on students from Pakistan. Or it's because they want to control the number of students going to Canada every year. If they are controlling the number for students going to Canada, they should just not allow Colleges and universities to give admission for international students or maybe just take the fees for 2 semesters upfront. Why make a study visa, such a glorified thing?

PLUS, I strongly believe there should be interviews rather than all this pain staking procedure of applications and waiting. Access the student there and then. Because the papers can't talk and explain one's situation. Everybody is not a lawyer.

Just my opinion!.. All the best people! :)

It's the combination of almost all of these factors.

But I believe in this way even the so-called "genuine" students sometimes fail to satisfy the visa officer and their time is wasted. And then again, they themselves have opened immigration, PGWP etc. Of course this is the attraction in Canada even for a genuine student. Or else there is no university of Canada in top 10 ranking. Best education is in the US and a couple of UK (Cambridge and Oxford) universities.

So it's a combination of all the factors that leads to a student choosing Canada as a study destination as well. Even the universities attract students showing all these prospects.

Well Canada is surely making things difficult now. They have now stopped FSW program for 6 months on the reason of making changes to the program and it is expected that the process of immigration will be made more tougher this time around.

I agree with you. yeah they must clarify their status e.g we are not gonna give visas to college students. or whatever.

I disagree your last statement. I think drop box visa is easy to achieve. visa interview goes for an hour or even more and they ask hell out of questions form you. I went to American embassy for interview. they catch you during interview and ask "will you come back to PAkistan?" we say "yes" VO asks "if you are offered a job then?" we say "we may stay for an year extra to gain experience." so on they kept on asking foolish question even though they now the answers. then VO asks about funds "why your father is giving his money to you." you have three more brothers if they want to go outside then there will be no money left for them they can ask their part from you fathers funds ...... more then an hour imagine. and they refuse. nowadays German embassy doing the same refuses visas at interview base. here visa drop boxes you have full right to show your documented credentials and win the game.

I disagree, interview personalizes an application and gives you the chance to eliminate any concerns the VO might have about you. CHC islamabad just rejects an applicant if they have any issue instead of interviewing...

I have also gone to american embassy for interview, it was for visit visa, and they did not ask any extremely difficult questions :/ Also, if you are worried about interview from VO.. how will you handle job interview?

First of all, there are other factors aswell that lead to people choosing Canada. Secondly, they are making it excessively hard on pakistani applicants ever since the NATO supplyline issue.. getting a study permit for university students from India is a joke (many have gotten it in 4 working days lol)

They do want students, Canada is still vastly underpopulated, they just dont want "too many" Pakistani students.. sad but true

What if they refuse your visa assuming that what if your other brothers want to go out to study? I mean an interview gives you a chance to speak. Like e.g. my other two brothers are working/living independently and I had to include their letters from company even though it wasn't a requirement just so that the VO doesn't think that how will my father sponsor the other 2 kids and take care of the family and send me to Canada in this income. They should ask us to gather ALL documents and conduct an interview.

I mean for instance I didn't sign a job contract in Saudi because over here the rules would let me change my sponsor from my dad to my employer and the employer takes your passport and you can't do anything if he is not good and doesn't want you to leave. That way I have 6 months of unemployment. And there is not even enough space to explain such things on the form. Although for me I don't think having a 6 months gap is a big deal. It's not that I couldn't find work, it was because I didn't want to work. That's where interview is a better option.

I have given several job interviews as well. DEscon, azko nobel and unilever are among toughest companies where I made through to the last round. (done all my interviews and grou0p discussions). so I think I have a lil experience of interviews :p.
visit visa is something else.... still just tell me have you got ur visit visa? have u satisfied the VO? if yes I would say its ur luck.

In my case we all four were studying at the moment, when I applied for US embassy. I had no answer to this question. secondly u guys have your opinion I am having my opinion I still think interview give rise to alot of questions in the VO minds. in drop box u only need to concentrate on documents. if you got ur dox right u got it.
