Hello,
I have worked in country (X) for more than 3 years [it falls in the 4 years before applying for citizenship] then I moved to my home country for 3 months then I landed in Canada as a PR .
Do I have to provide police certificate for country (X) or not ?

Does country (X) considered country of origin immediately before landing as a PR or not immediately because I moved to home country for 3 months in between ?

Please advise and thanks in advance...

@rajkamalmohanram

If you were not resident in country X before you established PR in Canada I would strongly recommend that you submit a police certificate.

Hello,
I will apply citizenship in July 2021 and my passport expires November 2021....is it mandatory to renew the passport while my application is in process and does it need to be renewed at the time of test or oath or I can ignore renewing the passport till I get citizenship and get Canadian passport then go home country and renew it ?

please advise @rajkamalmohanram

Expiring / Expired passports have no bearing on your citizenship application. If asked, you can just tell the officer that you aren't renewing the passport now because you are not planning on traveling outside Canada until you get Canadian citizenship and a passport.

How many additional days should we wait to apply for citizenship (after 1095 days requirement is fulfilled) to safely submit citizenship application, assuming all the 1095 days are calculated correctly without any errors?

Thank you in advance

I recommend at least 2 weeks. But to each their own - some people choose to apply earlier, some later.

It's really up to you, but some people wait a week, some wait a month and some even more. If you didn't have that many trips, then a week should be good?

Just called the client center to inquire about the new form not setting the eligibility start date correctly (a day off from what's on the online presence calculator), the agent told me to add an explanation letter when sending the application and explain the situation.

LONG POST ALERT

Before getting married, I held a passport with validity March 2014 to March 2019.
After getting married, I did a change of name and got issued a new passport (new name, new passport number and new validity period). Validity of the new passport is August 2017 to August 2022. My old passport became invalid and was not returned to me (although I learnt much later that it should have been returned to me, but by then it was too late, I was already in Canada).
It was the new passport I used to apply for PR and land in Canada in 2018.
My eligibility period for Canadian citizenship application is February 10, 2016 to February 10, 2021.
For Q.14;
1) Do I need to include details of my old passport, knowing that I will not be able to provide the original (although I have a copy of the biodata page)? Will doing this also mean that I will need to give a reason why I no longer have it? Will my reason be acceptable?
OR
2) Should I omit the details of the old passport entirely, and say that I did not have a passport before August 2017?

I am sceptical about option 2 because in my PR application, although the old passport was not mentioned (there was no need for it to be as no question was asked about old travel documents), I included details of international travel that I used that passport for (there was a question on if I or any member of my family had done any international travel within the last 10 years). I do not know if any reference will be made to my PR application.

Please note that I am not trying to hide any fact, as I do not have anything to hide. I just want to avoid any unnecessaries (delays, uncertainties, additional working and stress).

All opinions and suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Option 2 is a big no-no.

This would be considered misrepresentation! Do NOT do this.

Give them what they are asking for (That is, all passports held during the 5 year eligibility period, whether valid or not). During your initial submission, you would only be providing the bio pages of your current passport AFAIK. You will only have to show your old passport if asked (during an interview or if you get an additional documents request).

If you get an additional document request OR an interview, you can explain to them that you had your old passport cancelled and you never got it back from them. As long as you have some trace (like a photocopy of the bio pages of the old passport), you should be good IMO.

This might add some complexity to the application but in no way is more complex or harmful than being refused for misrepresentation.

The only way (that I see) you can legally avoid bringing up your old passport is if you decide to apply after August 2022 so that your old passport is void for the entirety of your eligibility period.

Thanks @rajkamalmohanram

Do you think I should include a letter of explanation, giving details just as I have outlined it in this forum? Would that help or would it be an overkill?

And there's no way I am waiting till August 2022 to apply, not with citizenship applications taking over 24 months to be completed these days.

Yes, I believe a LOE here will help.

I would recommend that you take a second opinion from someone who might have been in a similar situation to be absolutely sure.

Good luck.

Hello please
Can anyone explain to me about the part of opening an account, should we do it for each member of family or one account and is it the key GC
I find it mentioned but would love additional details please
(The Online Physical Presence Calculator (OR) How to Calculate Physical Presence (CIT 0407)
  • Like I mentioned in the previous section, the online physical presence calculatoris much easier to work with instead of trying to calculate manually.
  • You would have to create an account if you don't already have it.)
  • Thanks

I'm not sure what it is you are asking exactly but if you are submitting a paper application, yes, it is much better to use the online physical presence calculator.

You can visit this link and click on 'If you are a new client, please Register.'

Once you register, you should be able to start the calculation there (and save it to the account you just created).

You might be able to add more than one calculation in one account (I believe you could but I haven't tried it).

AFAIK, if minor children are applying alongside a parent who is also applying for citizenship, the minor doesn't have to fulfil the residency obligation.

I'll let others who applied with children comment on this one as well.
