Hi everyone, just a few quick questions regarding landing. I know that passport (with valid permit), CoPR and bank letter are three must-haves to do the landing. Do I have to prove my current Canadian residential address when I do the landing? I lost my driver license... I can think about other document as a proof, such as NOA from CRA. Not sure if that will work out. Also, I am planning to land at Lewiston–Queenston Bridge. I once drove to the State across that bridge and noticed that there is a U-turn lane leading back to Canada just ahead of the US border. I am just wondering if in this case I can avoid the flag-polling by not entering the US border. Can anyone share the experience if you happen to land at that bridge? Thanks!

Congrats ;D

These are all you need for landing. A proof of address is for PR card that CIC is going to send to you. Bills and Tax return forms would be enough to proof that. Most of the immigrant people who come to Canada for the first time, do not have an address and they provide a friend's or a relative's address.

The reason that you do flag polling is passing the Canadian border and entering to the USA land. You should have a proof for this. If you have a USA visa you can go to USA border office and get enter and exit stamps on your passport. If you do not have it, you should get a letter from USA border that you passed the Canadian border and you turned back to Canada from USA. This letter from USA border will not affect your application for USA visa in future. This letter or your stamped passport is the first thing that you should show to the Canadian immigration officer.

Thank you so much for clarifying that. In this case, Rainbow Bridge might be a better option, more lanes available. I am still waiting for my passport to be returned. Do you know how many days on average will people get their passport back from Ottawa (from the day it being delivered to Ottawa)? Will I receive an email notification that they have shipped my passport or I can only keep tracking the self-return mail?

You also can walk through a sidewalk on the Rainbow Bridge. In this case you need a quarter (25 cents) for each person to pass the bridge at the Canada side. I did it and it was really fast.

It takes between 10 and 14 days. It depends how busy they are. They will not inform you. You should check your return package's tracking number. When it is activated, means they have sent it to you.

Background: my visa and study permit will have expired when landing, so I am applying for extending the study permit.
Question: do I need to renew the visa at the same time? Or the visa that I will receive after PPR is enough for landing?
Thx a lot for ur kind replies and time!!

Hi everybody,

I have a question, and appreciate whoever inform me about situation.
I have got my medical on May 25th, 2015, but not passport request yet. My passport will be expired by december 2015. Do you think I should renew it now or I should wait for passport request? Is it problem the passport does have just 3 month before expiration from now or if I renew it I should inform CIC by email before pass request?

Thanks in advance!

You will get an Immigration VISA and it would be enough for your landing.

CIC usually ask from a primary applicant to submit a new passport if its going to be expired in 6 month.

If they do not ask for a new passport, you would be in one of these situations.

1) They issue an immigration VISA in your current passport, but the expiry date of your VISA would be your passport expiry date (The immigration VISA expiry date is exactly a year after your medical exam submission).

2)When you send your passport to CIC, they may refuse to stamp an Immigration VISA on your passport with less than 6 month validity.

You do not know when you are going to get the PPR. Therefore, getting a new passport might be a better decision.
inform CIC by Email, when you got your new passport.

Hi everyone, I am having a few questions regarding landing.

1. What are the documents I must bring with to do the landing? I know that passport, study permit, CoPR letter and bank statement are things I should bring with. Is there anything else?

2. I am planning to land at rainbow bridge, but my US visa was expired. So basically I will get a refusal of entering from the US custom and then get sent back to the Canadian border. Is that how things work out? Will this refusal of entry effect my future US visa application?

3. Is there anything else worth mentioning apart from my first two concerns?

Thanks in advance.

1- These are the only documents that you should have with. They may ask you to return all valid and expired work and study permits.

2- Yes you will get a letter but this is not refusal letter. This letter is only for the Canadian border to make sure that you have been entered to the USA land. You did not apply for the USA VISA to get a rejection. I asked it from a USA immigration officer at the border and he said this is not affecting your future VISA application.

3-Keep in mind that you can provide a list of belongings that you already have in your home country. You will get a printed paper based on your claim. you can bring those items to Canada without TAX payment.

*Be relax during your landing.
*Use sidewalk to pass the border. I believe this is better than taking your car with you. You only need a quarter (25 cent) per person to pass the border gate in Canada.

No PPR for a long time. Someone who received it didnt share the progress, CIC slowed down the processing of cases in the Ph.D stream, or some CIC officers were on a vacation? Hope the first case.

CIC has updated the processing time for CPC-Ottawa form 18 months to 11 months. It means that after 11 months you can call them and probably the call agent can request the center for expediting the process of your application.

Good luck to all who are still waiting for PPR.
