Thanks @Parkinson, I do have a car and can hopefully use that. I am grateful for this forum.

No, you can not. They ask for funds that are "completely available, transferrable and unencumbered by debt or other obligations". So, you should have that amount in your account or prove that you have properties like car or... which are cash-able.

Hello Guys,

I am new here. I have a question from those who applied after May 2013. Does Sydney give the 5 points of adaptability to those Phd who have finished 2 years study but not finished their program? I know that two applicants got this point (Sarsanballa and someone else). I just want to make sure that all others have got it. You do not need to have your Capse. If you think that without having those 5 points your application would be rejected by Sydney, then they have awarded it to you.

I just don't understand how come they accept updated ref letters. The IRPR clearly says:

"within the 10 years preceding the date of their application for a permanent resident visa"
OP 6b FSW page 29:
-take into account any years of experience that occur between application and assessment, and for which the applicant has submitted the necessary documentation (pursuant to R77 of Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).

I think you can ask CIC...just call them and ask as a general question...they will guide you...otherwise if they send you a passport request in the next one or two months (or more in some cases)....you would have to do your landing before the old passport expires...
Thank you sgtrigger. Got my passport request email!
I just emailed them about this issue.

Does any body here got passport request without giving a RCMP and/or bio data?

I got my pass request and the decision is made. But no sign of RCMP/bio data!
I did not get any RCMP and/or bio data request.

Guys, congratulations for your PPR :)

Could you please let me know how you found that post-doc cannot claim NOC 4012?

It seems based on the below rule they should be able to.
Yes, I'm actually wondering about that too, but I have read somewhere that post-doc scientists should use the NOC for their corresponding fields rather than NOC 4012. I'll try to dig up that info and let you know if I find anything.

Careful, I did that and got rejected.

Hi ASG, can you elaborate on what you did that led to rejection? Were you a post doc, and you claimed NOC 4012? Or did you get rejected because you used the corresponding NOC for your field of research?

My supervisor wrote it and I specifically asked him to use duties corresponding to "biologist" (it was the NOC I had chosen). I did check what he wrote and thought it was perfect. At this time I did not know about the lead statement and such, and I got rejected based on the fact that his letter did not correspond enough to the NOC I had chosen.

I believe that whatever course of action you take, the NOC you choose should be a perfect match to the supervisor's letter. I would likely have gotten in if I had had a lead statement. But there is more risk of being rejected if you use something other than 4012, as, as a PhD, your "work" IS TA/RA.
To me, I was a biologist, and not just a TA/RA, but you need to consider this from a purely administrative point of view (people evaluating our applications).

I agree. For PhD students, I think it's better and more safe to use the more generic descriptions of NOC 4012, as all PhD students do pretty much everything described under that NOC. Post-doc positions, though, are a completely different story, as they would completely violate the employment requirements for NOC 4012 that one needs to be a student in order to be an RA or a TA.

arian_arian made a very good point in that to claim work experience in one particular NOC, it is enough to prove that you have conducted the lead statement and a substantial number of job duties (but not the employment requirements), but I heard it mentioned somewhere that post-doc should not use NOC 4012, but rather, their particular field of research. I will try to dig this up in a bit.

Hi all,

My application was deemed to meet Sydney's minimal requirements a while ago and they forwarded it to a regional processing office.

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can enquire about the status of my application and/or how much longer I can expect to wait?

Thanks a million!

Your application was sent in November 2013. I think it's still early to expect their contact. If you look at the tracker of this forum, it usually takes 12-14 months to receive another contact after they received the Positive Eligibility Review (PER). So, i think for your case, they will contact you for medical exam or so in October or later. But it's just my guess, if earlier, it's good for you!

You can order GCMS information under privacy act from CIC website to figure out how many points Sydney has awarded you and other information about your application. It usually takes around 1 year for Ottawa to process your application.
