Hi sam001, just be patient. There could be several things in affecting how fast they will issue PER. Some applications are really straightforward (in terms of easiness to validate and number of points), and they get issued PER faster. Some others are a bit harder (maybe because they have more overseas work experience) and take longer. If you take a look at the timeline, you'll notice a lot of variations, and some applicants applied early but got their PER later (in fact, there are a lot of such cases).

Also, just curious, how many points are you expecting, and are you relying on the 5 previous study adaptability points to get above 67 points? Do you have any Canadian degree? I'm under the impression that they will only automatically assign the 5 adaptability points if you have a Canadian post-graduate degree, so you may (or may not) have to appeal for these points if it really comes down to them (two applicants here so far have appealed and successfully overturned their NER into PER by arguing for these adaptability points). Let us know and good luck :)

There have been cases where people got rejected for having only 66 points. They thought that they would get the 5 adaptability previous study points, but the CIO decided not to award them. Two applicants so far have appealed this decision, and got their negative assessment overturned, but it is still not clear yet whether awarding these 5 points for PhD stream applicants is something that they would do by default from now on. If I may conjecture, I think you may have to appeal as well, though hopefully they will just realize it and award you these 5 points.

Good news!

Received the PER today after appealing NER (initially, the officer has not awarded me 5 points for my 3 years of study in Canada). Submitted my appeal last Thursday. It took less than a week, and it indeed worked! Current students are eligible for 5 adaptability points. Know of at least two other applicants from my school who did the same and were successful (plus two on this forum). Processing of the appeal can take any time between a few days (like for me) or a month (early applicants who got rejected).

In my understanding, we got NER in the first place because before June 2010, FSW applications were processed at individual visa offices. After the rules have changed in June 2010, initial processing moved on to the CPC in Sydney, but there were little to no students-in-progress applicants at that time because the FSW-3 stream was shut down. As a result, the immigration officers in Sydney didn't get enough experience with the applications from students, and now they have to deal with somewhat unfamiliar applicants who have studied in Canada for more than 2 years but do not have a Canadian degree. But of course, we are right, and that's precisely why appeals work.

I expect there will be less NERs due to 5 adaptability points. They might have already spotted the issue and done necessary training.

Please add me to the timeline.

@ Aboshosha84 and other all seniors,

He said, he completed four full time semester (equivalent to 2 years). I did not get it.
My school has 3 quarters. Sept-Dec, Jan-April, and May-Aug, Now all undergrad has vacation in summer, but graduates are working.

So What is the rule, 4 semester, or 2 YEARS (730 DAYS).

kg.jadu, congratulations!!! Anyway, can you share your nationality and the time when your credit card was charged? Also, in your NER letter, how many years of experience did you get credited? You mentioned that you had some experience back home, so I'm just wondering, how many hours did you claim, and how many years of experience did you get credited (based on what's written in your NER letter). I think this would be a valuable piece of information as it would give us some sort of a guideline as to whether our expectation of the number of work experience years matches their interpretation.

I don't think your school is following a quarter system. Most likely, since one term is roughly 4 months, it's probably a trimester system (3 terms per year) rather than quarter. If you have completed two semesters, then most likely you have completed two years of full-time study. Likewise, with your school, it has to be 6 terms rather than only 4.

We have three semester per year. Once this new PhD stream appeared, our School of Graduate and Post Graduate Studies (SGPS) sent us an email stating that the required two years is equivalent to 4 terms of full time studies based on the Three-Semesters system. I am not sure if that is valid for any full time studies and Three-Semester system or not. ::). I recommend you consult the SGPS in ur School or the one who is going to issue u the letter of attestation. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Hello, aboshosha84. Do you mean that as long as you have finished 4 semesters based on the three-semester system, you can apply for the PhD stream immigration, even if it is less than 2 year actually (It could be 1 year 4 months)? OR, you have to apply after two years? Could you tell me about your case? Thank you!

Hi Even,
It could be 1 year 4 months, this is my case. I started my PhD on September 2010. I received the letter of attestation on January 2012.
Cheers
