Hi beh

Congrats on your landing. Would you mind sharing how much time did they put as a condition to be able to apply for the passport. 2years out of next 4 or 3 years out of next 4.

Thanks.

Thanks. I applied from Quebec. CIC didn't ask any document about proof of intention to live outside of Quebec.
Thats actually good and bad news. Good news that people from Quebec are getting PR through this stream, bad being where is the consistency?? Would you mind sharing which year of PhD are you in and if any documents were provided proactively to them say offer letter for employment etc. Please share as it will help many people on this forum and few of my friends in Quebec.

Thanks.

It is 3 years, but you can use the time being in Canada before getting your PR status up to a maximum of 1 year. It means you must accumulate 2 out of 4 years after being a PR.

Thanks Aidina

This is what I knew, but recently a friend of mine told me that he met someone who got 3/4 despite being in Canada for 4 years. Maybe there was an error and they didnt fight back.

Hi every one,
I got my passport on Jan 13 and did my landing yesterday. It was really easy and the officer was OK. It just took almost 10 min.

Wish the best for all of you and thank you all.

That is what CIC site says. Do you mean the guy was forced to stay in Canada for 3 years after getting his PR status?

Their landing record directed them 3/4 instead 2/4. I had a big argument regarding this. I will reconfirm with them again.

That shouldn't be true. Here you can check residence calculator for citizenship on cic website:

Hi yuw25m and congrats on your landing. It would really help us applicants from Quebec to know what was your conditions here? which year are you in? are you close to graduation? if so, was that mentioned in your letter from supervisor? any other links that they could think of as a connection to other provinces? It would be really helpful if you could share this info with us, Thanks a lot

Hey Guys, I m getting prepared for the application, but my ECA is not ready yet. So I am afraid it ll take a while. Do you know what will happen after April? has there been any news?

is there gonna be a change in the regulations? or the scoring system?

Thanks

By the time you apply for citizenship, you must have at least 1,095 days within the past four years. Days you spent in Canada within the past four years as a non-PR would only count half.

Remember, you can only look up to the last four years, and must have at least 1,095 days. You can have as many non-PR days as possible within the last four years, but note that you would not ever get more than 1,095 days without staying in Canada as a PR for AT LEAST two years, since your non-PR days would start leaving the 4-year window for citizenship calculation.

So if you apply for citizenship today (Jan 16 2014), you can only count the total number of days from Jan 16 2010. Each day you spent as a non-PR from Jan 16 2010 to Jan 16 2014 counts as half day, whereas as a PR, it counts as full day. If you have more than 1,095 days, then you're eligible to apply.

I have a question regarding adaptability score. It is stated;

"Your past study in Canada
You finished at least two academic years of full-time study (in a program at least two years long) at a secondary or post-secondary school in Canada.

Full-time study means at least 15 hours of classes per week, and you must have stayed in good academic standing (as set out by the school) during that time."

Hence, all PhD stream applicants will get this right?

I think sarsanballa can confirm this, but yes, you do not need to have completed the program anymore (which is now very clear from the wording that only two years of the program need to be completed) to claim these five points (if you applied after May 4 2013).

PhD stream applicants, if they are qualified to apply under the stream, would also have completed at least two years of their PhD programs, and be in a good academic standing. Being eligible to apply under the PhD stream would also mean that you're eligible to claim these five points.
