Yes, it is very important for the reference letters to substantiate what you claim as your job duties. Equally important is to describe your job duties in the "Schedule 3" closely in line with HRSDC description of the NOC your job falls under. Here are couple of examples from my application that may be useful to the new applicants:

1)NOC4166 description by HRSDC: "Education policy researchers, consultants and program officers perform some or all of the following duties:
•Conduct research, produce reports and administer education policies and programs
•Evaluate curriculum programs and recommend improvements
•Develop the structure, content and objectives of new programs
•Conduct statistical analyses to determine cost and effectiveness of education policies and programs
•Provide ongoing professional development, training and consultative services to teachers and other professionals throughout the public and private sector
•Develop teaching materials and other resources for program delivery
•Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops and symposia
•May supervise the work of other education policy researchers, consultants or program officers
•May administer specialized testing and assessment programs."

My wording: "Expert-consultant, Edu.: >Provide consulting services in developing structure, content & policies of new prog's; >assist institutions to prepare for 3rd party accreditations; >provide prof. development workshops to various professionals."

2)NOC4011 description by HRSDC: "University professors and lecturers perform some or all of the following duties:
•Teach one or more university subjects to undergraduate and graduate students
•Prepare and deliver lectures to students and conduct laboratory sessions or discussion groups
•Prepare, administer and grade examinations, laboratory assignments and reports
•Advise students on course and academic matters and career decisions
•Direct research programs of graduate students and advise on research matters
•Conduct research in field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books
•May serve on faculty committees dealing with such matters as curriculum planning and degree requirements, and perform a variety of administrative duties
•May represent their universities as speakers and guest lecturers
•May provide professional consultative services to government, industry and private individuals.
University professors and lecturers specialize in a particular subject matter such as biology, chemistry, anatomy, sociology, business administration or law."

My wording: "F/T University Faculty: Taught graduate and undergraduate business courses; >prepared & delivered lectures; >designed, administered & graded exams & assignments; >supervised Master's thesis; >provide consultative services to org's; >worked in committees."

good luck...
Good insight GeoCanadian. I understand the sentences in quotes were what you wrote under "main duties" on schedule 3? If yes, my understanding from that section is that each "Years of experience" (less than 1 year; 1 year but less than 2 years, ...) corresponds to only a line under "main duties". Hence, I'm just wondering how you were able to put such long description of your "main duties" in one line. For instance, all I could write was "Assist with teaching and research activities" as the space won't allow any further words.

You could try to attach some more sheets as appendix if no space is allowed in the form.

Hi Cutty,

Here is verbatum what I was able to fit in the five lines of Schedule 3 under the main duties without need to attach additional sheets (although that is an option too):

example 1: Provide consulting services in developing structure, content & policies of new prog's; assist institutions to prepare for 3rd party accreditations; provide prof. development workshops to various professionals.

example 2: Taught graduate and undergraduate business courses; prepared & delivered lectures; designed, administered & graded exams & assignments; supervised Master's thesis; provide consultative services to org's; worked in committees.

The long descriptions you see in my previous post are from HRSDC NOC that CIC uses to assess our experience (see http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=* ). It is very important that, on one hand, your own wording does not repeat everything in the NOC verbatum and, on the other hand, is closely in-line with that NOC description. The reference letter must also confirm, maybe in different words, what you claim under the duties of your past jobs. Do not forget to have your employer put the reference letter on the company letterhead AND have it sealed (especially for overseas experience).

A small query, I have applied on 18 May, got PER on 4th June. I got letter from CIC. I didn't include my email so everything is by post. Does it mean that they will not put my record on ECAS?

I cannot open my status on ECAS. How long does it take, if it will come?
It took 12 days in my case. You should see your eCAS any day now...

I believe the backlog is going to be processed, http://www.thestar.com/iphone/news/canada/politics/article/1211698--ottawa-loses-legal-battle-over-immigration-backlog
I hope that this would not delay our applications.

Seems like there is still some voting to be done, but I believe the immigration part will be intact in the end.

Their hopes are gloomy.

Although a lot of them still expect Senates to hold the passing of C-38.

Update: My ecas account has been completely removed. I can no longer log in. And they have not contacted me yet regarding my appeal email and fax last week.

I remember that many of you has appealed successfully in CIO, Sydney. If possible, could you share with me how you did it? Like did you appeal via email, phone, fax, or regular mail? Or did you submit any documents to support your appeal.
Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone,

My case was overturned to PER yesterday, saying it will be forwarded to visa office. I got NER at first beginning because of the 'well-known' adaptability point issue for previous study in Canada.

However, I got two questions:
1) Since I have sent my re-application package to CIO last week, what should I do now?
2) As I indicated Buffalo as visa office, will CIO automatically forward it to Ottawa?

Thanks very much.
