Hi there,

I have 3 questions:

1) I am planing to have a vacation out of Canada during Christmas, then should I update my travel information with CIC or not?

2) As I remember, someone mentioned before that if you travel to US then you need to get police clearance from FBI, is it true?

3) Should I get Police Clearance from other countries instead of USA, for example, if I travel to Europe or Brazil ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi to All,
I have applied under Phd stream in June 2014, today I got and email from CIC with following

"This is in reference to your application for permanent residence in Canada. In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:
1) Employment Reference Letter: Please provide a letter of reference from [****Names of employers******] indicating hours
worked per week for every position you held with these employers. This must be received at this office by: 2015/01/01.

2) > Funds, proof: Please provide updated evidence of funds which are completely available, transferrable and unencumbered by debt or other obligations.
Evidence of account activity for the past six months must also be submitted. To find out the amount of money you need to support your family size of 3 persons, please refer to: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp
This must be received at this office by: 2015/01/01.

"
Here are my questions

1) Is it enough to ask my previous employers to only include number of hours worked per week to the reference letters that they already have sent to me or I need to update those letters altogether and need to add more information

2) I have around $12000 in my account as POF but as a family of three I need to show around $18,097, I can borrow remaining money from someone. On the other hand after I applied for PR, I got postgraduate work permit and now I am also working in Canada and has a full time permanent job. Is borrowing money gona affect my chances or the visa officer will consider my job and exempt me from POF.

I will be very thankful for any help in this regard.
You should not borrow money from someone else. Proof of funding requires that your have proof that you have the money and that money come from somewhere you don't have to return it to, as in you held a job and was paid for doing work. Having said that, there is a possibility of you receiving a donation of your parents, and you should attach a letter saying they will not require that money back. Nonetheless, CIC can still reject you.

Thanks again, I decided to sell jewelry, my question is that how I can make sure that I have enough proof to show that the money has come by selling the jewelry, because if they do not accept it, I will lose a of of money because jewelry sells much less than its original price.

My suggestion (and I don't see anything illegal in it);

Sell all the jewelry and ask your parents for a small donation of money. Once you get all the money in your hands, go to the bank and open a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). It works with CIBC and RBC, and it may work with other banks as well. You can deposit up to 5,000 CAD per year in a TFSA. Then show the statement of this account to CIC.

For your information, TFSA statements do not show the deposits you have made, it just shows the total amount you have together with your personal information. Obviously you will only have 5,000 CAD in the account, but you can open another TFSA for your spouse!

In order to obtain a TFSA statement, you must go to your branch, ask for a print out of your TFSA and stamp it with their official seal.

Doesn't the valid jop offer exempt him from POF?
I think it is enough to show a letter of employment.

Hello everyone,

I have two important questions regarding my eligibility under the PhD stream:

1) I have completed two years of full-time study in my PhD studies and all my previous studies (BSc and MSc) were outside canada. Do you think that I will be awarded 5 adaptability points for my studies?

2) My IELTS scores were: Speaking: 7, Listening: 7.5, Reading: 9, Writing: 7. Do you think that I will be awarded 23 points or 20 points for English language proficiency? In other words, do they award points for different skills separately or is it considered on a CLB level basis. If they consider on CLB level then the only possible total points for language will be 16 or 20 or 24 and there will not be points such as 21, 22, 23.

Hi Ali,

For question 1: In some cases they give 5 points for adaptability when you are a PhD student in Canada. However for some other cases they don't. It is officer-based.
Question 2: You will achieve 23 points for the IELTS. The only point that you are missing is in the listening.

We all did our medical almost a month ago and we have not heard anything from CIC yet. However, you applied six months earlier than most of us. It seems CIC is not asking for passport from anybody nowadays. They will start asking for PPs soon or late, but nobody knows when that day comes.

Yes this is what I thought as well as I am working on a work permit and do not need an LMO because it is postgraduate work permit. But after reading answers from other I feel that working under postgraduate work permit does not exempt you from POF.
