Hi All
I am lanning to relocate to Toronto (GTA) in mid November 2011. I did some research on apartment communities but could not find any communities similar to what we have in the USA. ALl I could find was either High Rise buidlings or Individual home / townhomes.

Those who are already living in GTA, can you tell me if there are any apartment communities similar to what we have in the USA?

Thanks.

I think I know what you are looking for...is it private gated communities with multiple buildings (some 2 -3 stories) with shared services (like dry cleaners, mail services, access to office space and/or equipment) and amenities (community gathering spaces and social functions, pools/workout facilities, etc)? If so, I haven't really seen that here. What I do see are the high rise buildings (and some of these offer services and amenities) and duplex/townhomes you've found so far, and lots of basement apartments for rent in "detached" homes.

Hi AllisonVSC
Thanks for the response. Your understanding is correct but it is sad to see that Canada doesn't have apartment communities the way we have it in the USA.

I am planning to be in Toronto area in mid November. Can you please suggest which area will be the best from the point of view of crime rate and elementry & secondary schools.

Just wanted to update and finally close the thread that I had started.

I finally moved to Canada - Toronto in Nov 2011. Currently living in Markham. I tried my best to search a locality like the USA (which I was used to for 7-8 years) but could not find any and finally moved to a high rise condo. It has all the amenities that I was looking for and best part is that it is convinient in winters. Now I can go for swim in winters as well. And I do not miss the US experience of apartment communities.

My condo has underground parking garage so no worry of snow removal. Taken care by condo management. :)

Thank you to all those who shared the information on my thread. This is logical closure of the thread that I started. :)
