I have same situation, my AOR in 2nd May and I called CIC twice and no definite answer.
CIC officer said the file with CSIS and no one can check with them until get a reply from them.

I think this kind of investigation happening to the people traveling a lot.

Actually, This might be true. But, how much more time would it take compared to other applicants ? Maybe we could check from previous threads

I'd also agree about travelling.

I searched a bit and seems they need around 2,5 months for issuing "clear" report and if smth catches their attention, it might take very long time to investigate.

So, if my background check is in progress since August, Does that imply being suspicious ?

I don't think change of background status to in progress means your file went to CSIS, it could be later.

I called CIC today and the agent told me my background check is still in progress

its been 7 months already since my AOR. has anyone called CIC and the agent told them the same thing? And how long did it take u to get ppr after they told u that background is still in progress?

You can see previous messages. There are a few ppl left who have background in progress. The cases are at the Security Intelligence Service.
We think it might have smth to do with big travelling history. Nobody knows how long it's going to take for them to verify all the info.

I also called last week and got same response,there is no timeframe for security check,if we have traveled lot of countries it might takes a lot to clear the security,

For ppl whose security check is in progress for a loooooong time, would someone not mind sharing how big your travel history is? in order to let other ppl in the same situation have an idea about that...

About myself, from my last notes the security check is ongoing for more than 3 months (as far as I know for most of ppl it's 1-2 months). I've travelled to four countries (excluding Canada and my home country). The only one that might be a bit "sensitive" is Cuba.

I don't think my travel history is big though...

I've travelled to 7 or 8 countries excluding Canada and my home country. In my case, there is one repeating destination in Europe where my boyfriend is from, which might have risen questions.
