Hi Wifey,
If you carry more than 5000 CAD in cash, you need to declare it in the port of entry of Canada. Thus it is better to carry a bank statement of wired transfer or a travelers cheque.

can you use a bank statement for sure? has any one done it?? using a bank statement from india or saudia?

please clarify

A bank statement from Canada. Other countries statement isn't directly utilizable unless its a bank whose funds are directly available in Canada and you have proof to support that.

I don't think they go in that much technicality. The rule of thumb is, you have to be able to access those funds right away while being in Canada. If they doubt it, it could be trouble

What do you mean by funds directly available incanada?

I can use my debit card anywhere in the world and also I can use Internet bankin to xfer the funds to canada, is that what u mean by readily available?

I don't think that qualifies. At the very least it is more than just having the ability to withdraw and use funds. CIC implicitly wants that money to move to Canada.

You can use a debit card from any where, but it is highly unlikely that you would continue using it if you settle here. The international transfer delays and fees etc. are there so every one uses a local account and only occasionally do international transfers when they visit / travel. So I would take this as giving a signal that you might not want the money in Canada which might also be an indication that it is not entirely your funds.

So at least having it in a Canadian bank or draft or cash or traveler cheque is needed.

Though this is OPINION and I haven't seen that written any where.

But then again I have never seen any one using this and being accepted for landing. One might also have a credit card that has enough limit and can use in Canada.

My PR journey is complete!

I landed yesterday July 08, 2016 at Edmonton International Airport before joining a connecting flight to Vancouver. Had a very smooth landing process.

Thank you all and best wishes...

Thank you Raj_Bond, bellaluna, fkl.

Raj Bond,

Can I open a bank account in Canada before landing there?

Wifey vai, Don't worry too much about money or POF. Immigration officers do not bother about that much as long as you have enough money with you like 3K- 10K (First time traveler to Canada). And you can keep the bank statement as a backup, if they ask where is the rest of the money. You can say that money in the process of transfer. That will be good enough. In my case, 1st Immigration officer has asked how much money you are carrying with you ? I have replied "less than 100 bucks". She smiled and signed the Immigration declaration card. So nothing much to worry. :) relax and buy some comfortable dress for long air travel.

Thanks
Raj

Hi there,
My AOR is Nov 23 and i sent a mail to Ottawa (my visa office) on 31 May and they have finally replied me 2 days ago saying that "they are awaiting the results of some internal processing prior to the finalization of your application....." . After that a ghost mail in my mail and ghost update in my CIC. At least some movement after long time. Hope this will bring some good news very soon.
Any similar situations ?
