These GCMS notes is a way to make money. The entire application processing system is online, why the hack we have to PAY for these two lines which takes weeks to reach us.

It is reasonable for paper applications but for online applications it is an intentional flaw in process.

IRCC is not making any money out of GCMS notes. Even if our applications are online that does not mean all work is done online by IRCC. May be they create a paper file out of online application we fill and then work on it.
I ll say GCMS is privileged system for applicants and good thing is IRCC has given access to their GCMS system, though it takes 30 days but applicant gets to know what exactly is going on with his/her application.

A CIC officer told me it takes about 10 weeks, but someone on the forum said he/she noticed that once BG status goes from in progress to not needed, r10 is passed

It's a good sign that your file is being processed.. calling an employer for verification during BG check is quite usual (not a mandatory one, though).

I don't think it is in the list of things that CIC wants to be updated about: in AOR they say "please inform us about any:
• Change in circumstances such as the loss of a job offer or a Provincial or Territorial nomination;
• Change in family composition including new born children, adopted children, divorce, marriage etc;
• Change of address, including change of e-mail address;
• Change of immigration representative;
• Request to withdraw your application"
