Hi,
I've recently received my CoPR along with my stamped passport. I've applied from within Canada in the PhD stream. The process took 15--16 months. Yay!
However, checking the latest processing times for PR cards made me a little worried (currently, it says 94 days).
My problem is as follows. I need to travel out of Canada in August (to attend a conference), but even if I tried landing as soon as possible (and assuming everything else goes fine), I don't think I will be receiving my PR card in time to travel out of Canada and come back. I am from a country that needs a visa, by the way. Therefore, my first question is: Is there a standard procedure for cases like these?
I'm also considering option 2, where I do the "landing" when I return from the conference, but that may also be problematic. My passport is expiring within six months, therefore, I need to get a new one (those with the microchips and what not), but I'm not sure if getting a new passport will invalidate my Permanent Residence Visa altogether? I know that with some other countries, you can use visas on old passports, but in my personal experience, Canada has been different in these kind of cases. It's just my intuition, nothing scientific, though. Plus, this is a rather important and one-time visa. Therefore, my second question is: Has anyone been in a similar situation? Were there any problems at the Point of Entry?
Thanks in advance! I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading it for the past couple of weeks and people here are amazing!
