Jimi2, The airlines I called said that passport needs to be valid for 6 months. However if you go to star alliance site http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/ and input your information it gives the details whether Canada requires the passport to be valid for 6 months or not...

Yes, called up KLM they wont allow me to board if passport expiry is less than 6 months, no matter what the immigration rules are in that country. I guess I am destined to land in winter. >:(.

I am in a similar situation and my passport will expire 1 month after I plan to do my landing. I was thinking of renewing my passport and was not sure whether my PR visa will get invalidated. I wrote to CIC and they say that indeed it will become invalid if I renew my passport.
