Anyone here from Uni of Regina who can answer my query ?

Hello !

I just got an admit at University of Regina for Masters in Engineering Program Summer 2016[Environmental Systems Engineering]. The problem is I will only get a stipend of 1000 CAD per month. They are not waiving my tuition fee. Now there are few questions I want to ask ?

1. How much initially I need to survive there for first few months. Will 4 lacs be enough ?

2. I will get a stipend of maybe 1000 CAD per month only. Tuition fee is not waived. TA ship is not guaranteed. How much is the probability that I will get TA ship there in Regina once I land there ?

3. About the tuition and room costs. I saw it on website. Tuition is around 4000 CAD per year. Do I have to pay it first in advance or I can pay it in parts ? And how much can be the room cost per month.

4. How soon can I get a visa here from Pakistan. Classes start from 8 May. Can I get a Visa so fast ?

Hi Congrats for the admit. When did you submit your completed admission? How much time it took Regina to grant you the admission.

I dont think you can get the Visa for 4 lacs , you need to show sufficient funds for 2 years to tuition and housing.

I think for visa you need to submit the fee for the first year in advance, I'm not quite sure about this though.

Congratulations!
1) Initially u shd have atleast 2000-3000..u hv been given a monthly stipend so u dont need more then tht initially (by the way did u apply for a stipend? Is the stipend from uni? Is it in cash form?)
2) There is no guarantee..u maybe can get it if u do really good in first semester and TAship also depends on availability of slots..so dnt bet on it just yet
3) where did u read tht the fees is 4000 CAD per year? Tht is not correct..for Meng the fess is approximately 4000/semester (provided that u take 6 credit courses each semester to maintain full time status) here is the link

4) it takes around 3 months for visa from pakistan..people can get in 1.5 to two months but those r rare cases

Also please note that for visa application u wil have to show the tution fees for one year and a source income tht can prove tht u wil b able to pay tution for scnd year aswel
That is u need to show
12000-15000 CAD atleast for tution
I dont think u need to show the required 10000 for living xpenses bcz u hv been given a monthly stipend.

Well I applied to Regina on Nov 30th , 2015 and just yesterday I got accepted.

My CGPA : 3.09. Did Bachelors in Civil Engineering.

@re3dv. Thanks for answering me. I really needed this. The supervisor has guaranteed me a monthly stipend of 1000CAD per month. He is willing to provide me this stipend for two years fully.

I read somewhere on this forum that you only need to show expenses of 1 year tuition fee only. So my question is exactly how much I need to prepare my bank statement for ?

Also , can property assets be used to show proof of finance ? My father owns three residential plots of more than 90 lacs.

Okay nice , I too submitted my application on NOV 30, Did you send them official documents? Because I sent them the unofficial ones.

You need like 11 lacs is the tuition for Regina for 1 year plus the accommodations, I think 15 lacs should do it.

Yes, u read correct tht u need to show one year tution fees (which for u will b approximately 10000-12000 CAD). This shd be available in cash. For the remaining tution fees u need to show tht u do have some source of income (ths is to ensure tht u dont try to work more than 20hrs/week to save tution fees and for Pakistani students ths is very essential. I am also planning to apply in Lahore VAC in about two weeks). U definately shd show the assets. Get them evaluated and get an affidavit from ur father. It is good BUT keep in mind tht the best option is to show cash...in any case.

Thanks a lot mate. You are right. Showing my fathers property should not be my priority. Need to arrange some money now !

In my experience it wil take u 7-12 days atleast to gather al documents if u do everything as fast as possible. Dont worry, even if they delay ur visa and u dont get it before the start of class u can always get a deferral and start the program in fall..
Also ensure tht however u arrange the money u need to show the source..dont dump all the huge sums of money in ur account without showing where ur getting it frm

Guys.. One more question.. Not relevant to this post.

I have also applied to University of British Columbia. I had contacted the supervisor as well. However , their result will come in late. I think their funding package is usually handsome and reasonable.

So what do you suggest ? Should I accept the offer of Regina or wait for UBC result to come out ? I really do need financial aid.

Did the supervisor in UBC said he will take u on as a student?

1) ask for a deferral in uni of regina and wait for UBC result before applying for visa
2) apply for the visa on the admission of regina and if u get visa then u can change instituions on the same visa (canada doesnt bound student to attend the same uni after the visa is issued but do ths only if u hv applied to UBC for summer session aswel. If u hv applied for fall in UBC then, to avoid issues wd the embassy, get a deferral in UR and then apply on the basis of regina admission)
3) dont accept regina n wait for UBC (which wil be ridiculous)

The supervisor in UBC was quite optimistic about my profile. Said I should mention her name on application.

Anyway , I agree with you. Ignoring Regina at this stage would be foolish of me. I will accept the decision of Regina and then if visa is delayed ask for deferral. Btw are you a student in U of R ?

I have applied to regina for fall 16 and wil hear a decision in April. But i have already been accepted in Memorial uni and applying for visa for there. Im also waiting for admission in concordia which is my first priority.
