Hi,

I have applied for Masters in Computer Science(Industrial Option) for Sept 2017 Intake. I have not received any update as of now.
I contacted department and they are saying decisions will be made by end of April. I am not sure if there is still any chance to get the offer letter from UVIC.

Can I still get offer letter?

Thanks,
Rinky

I have applied too. For M.Eng program in Electrical and Computer. I applied during last week of March and current status shows "Under Review By Department".

I do hope that you know it is competitive to get in uvic, Ony 2-3 admits for cs yet. As far as when the decision would be out , the university knows the best!!

10th- 87%
+12- 84%
B.Tech: 81%
IELTS: 7.5
Work experience of 3 years in UnitedHealth Group

Do you think, I still have a chance?

Okay. Even I was thinking to apply in M.Eng. In this do we need a supervisor?

Sure , ur profile is good, u clear their minimum requirements. If they told u to contact a supervisor, then u shud, unless , no need. Uvic is very selective and prefer domestic students,so better to keep other backup options as well. All the best.

For CS, the best universities in canada are-
Waterloo, UBC, McGill, SFU,Uvic, University of Montreal.
And dude do u even know the current situation , even universities like Regina, Concordia are being selective, having good GPA is a good point but it does not guarantee even admission. Many things matter like having good projects, research work.

Which other universities u applied for? U shud have gone with 2-3 ambi, 3-4 mod and few safe ones.Yeah only McMaster or maybe concordia deadlines are left for fall. For uvic, try to approach a professor, if he/she agrees, u can get admit for sure. If u applied for industrial option, contact professor is not required, but they wud reject applications later giving reason that there is no supervisor available.

Ohh, you must be wanting to self fund ur studies, anyways now u shud hope for the best. I know professors give students a hard time . Most of the professors students contacted told them they are currently unavailable for thesis option. For industrial option, most decisions are made by committee ,u shud expect a reply this month. Don't worry, apply to more options next time if u are unsuccessful now. All the best!!

I would first like to answer this to the one who has good grades and considerable amount of experience, I would make sure to contact the professors of (UBC, UoT, McGill) if I have scholarship in mind, then I would go for UoWaterloo, Concordia, UdeM, UoVictoria where I have to pay fees but still have opportunities of receiving TA/RA.

Now regarding GPA's, if one has work experience then a good SOP and reference from employer is enough to secure an admissions. Although you are going for Master if you are able to communicate with a professor with similar work interest (research) he would definitely reply and suggest you to apply for the course.

Yes, GPA's matters but to secure a funding (scholarship/RT/TA) it solely depends upon u. You have fantastics academic track record and should give it a try to get into top Universities who will be happy to fund your studies.

Then again Luck is also a variable which should be with you.

You are sure to get admission in any university provided If you want to.

Same is the case with me. By the time I planned for studying in Canada, most of the universities' fall deadline were over. Hence, I just applied at UVic. I tried contacting professors but none of them replied. Chances look really bleak now.
