Hi, I'm considering studyin gin Canada and I've went over some of their laws about working while studying there.
I've read here that you can get a work permit for 20 hours a week while studying after you've been stuying for 6 months:
(I'm not allowed to post links but google "Work off campus canada work permit")
and it's written there that you must return the work permit when you finish your studies.
also here it's written that when you finish the degree, if it's over two years, you can get a work permit for an additional three years:
(I'm not allowed to post links but google "working after graduation canada work permit")
So just to be sure:
If I study there, I can both work while studying and stay for an additional three years after that to look for a job?
I mean it's nice that I can get a work permit but there's nothing written there about a visa, do I also get a visa if I'm eligible for this three years work permit?
Hi,
Everything you need to know about work permits such as OCWP(Off campus work permits - where after 6 months of studying, international students can work for 20hours/week), PGWP (Post Grad work permit, where if you finish a recognized Post secondary course of min 2 sem/8 months/1 acd. year.. in Canada, you can apply for open PGWP), Work permit for pursuing CO-op OR INTERNSHIPS can be found on the offcial CIC website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp
PGWP: Study programmes of minimum 2 sem/8months to less than 2 acd, years/4 semesters = will get PGWP equivalent to the duration of study course.
Study programmes of 2 acd. years/ 4 semesters or more = will get you a 3 years PGWP(max possible).
Here is the list of recognized educational institutes, listed province wise, which are participating in OCWP and PGWP:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp
So, best is to study an appropriate 2 acd. years/ 4 sem/ min. actual 16 months of study programme, then not only you can start working part time with an OCWP after 6 months in Canada, but also you will be eligible to get 3 years open PGWP, after your studies.
Regards
