We are being denied entry into Canada now due to online classes being "non-essential", but nevertheless being penalized for not entering Canada with a 50% within-Canada limit for PGWP eligibility. :(

Is there a possibility?
Lol no way at all. Impossible for people with approvals AFTER March 18th to travel before ALL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS are lifted in totality. They've made it very clear.

And God knows when they will remove all the restrictions. Maybe they're waiting for the end of the year 2022, which is when the vaccine will have been disseminated to the 8 billion people in the world.

They ARE NOT EVEN allowing those with a FULLY APPROVED PERMIT & letter of introduction issued BEFORE March 18th, saying that if your classes are online then it's "non-essential" & will not be allowed to travel or enter.

But still, they will continue to penalize those who are actually FORCED to start the program from home (due to their own "essential travel" rule ), by putting a 50% within-Canada limit for the PGWP eligibility. Lol.

God knows what difference it makes if you sit at home & study online, or sit in a hostel room in Canada & study online. But just setting foot there grants you the privilege of a PGWP, while those who are FORCED (by IRCC) to remain home & study are invalidated. Their careers and lives can get ruined and nobody cares.

P.S. I got into an extremely selective Master's program at the graduate level at a publicly funded university as an international student and am not allowed to defer. This isn't some random "hiring an agent to get admission and visa". I have worked my way through all along, with sheer academic merit granting me a place there as a student, and have done everything by myself, from scoring high in the GRE to getting a visa approved. I still cannot travel & enter due to "online" classes.

when did you get visa? was it full visa or aip?
Long long before March 18th, before this AIP concept even came into the picture. Seems like that was a completely different world only.

All I see here in this forum is AIP, 2 stage processing, AIP, blah blah....so tired of this.

I really wonder whether all students with approvals before March 18th have already entered Canada for the fall. This is a very big question in my head ??????????

Because I see only those students with the 2 stage thing here.

Even after being exempt from the travel restrictions (approval before March 18), I'm having to start studying from home.

All this is extremely disheartening. Alas.

Hey it's your view - I get it.

But just my opinion that maybe it'll help you & everyone else too, to just be a little hopeful and positive. Let's hope for good things to happen!

Yes you can, through the US. If you enter Canada from the US (flight or land border) then you can enter regardless of when SP was approved but you still need to convince CBSA agents that your presence is essential. There is nothing that states that you cannot for example fly from your home country to Seattle (given you are allowed to enter the US) and then drive a car across the border to Vancouver as long as you prove your travel is essential. Washington state does not have a mandatory quarantine period. This is made very clear on the following web page by CBSA:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/students.html#exemptions

Is there a possibility?
