Any news on reunification entry:
My parents had their immigrant visa and COPR expired the past March 31, can they come to Canada now or maybe a little later this year?
they are from 2019 sponsorship and hence got visa and expired due to covid.

This is my concern. How can you deny people that don't have access to the Canadian approved vaccines?
Will assume many airlines will also require proof of vaccination to have access to their flights. It’s a tough issue. Hopefully it will become easier to access certain vaccines even if is through private clinics. The world doesn’t want to open up travel to anywhere close to normal levels until more of the world has been vaccinated. Africa has remained less affected partially because of the reduced travel from more affected countries.

Again, though, they're not 'denying people' because they don't have access. They're imposing different health measures. Those are very different things.

(Note only on basis of what news reports/rumours have hinted at so far. Of course depends what you mena by 'denying people' - I mean, they are right now denying entry based on a variety of different factors, including where they are coming from and what they are doing)
So, for example - the EU would only accept tourists of an EU approved vaccine. I believe I read Canada was thinking of adopting something similar. So, my question is how would people who don't have access to an EU approved vaccine (or Canada) be allowed to travel?

Because nothing digital can ever be faked.
I'm not talking about fake or not fake - I mean as opposed to possibly being denied entry in to a country because they don't understand your proof of vaccination, because it's not one they've seen. I don't care if it's paper or digital, my point was that it would be helpful to be standardized.

Well, yes - I was lightly mocking the idea that it's just a technical issue that can be solved by the magic of the internet.

Canada probably will apply to tourists - and rightly so. But again, most likely on basis of where they got it and documentation.

Sputnik seems to have better results but sinovac doesn’t seem to have great protection. Can only imagine that not accepting people who have received Sinovac will also hve diplomatic implications although most in China would refuse to take a Chinese made vaccine.
That is the problem with the information currently available...throwing numbers with no explanation and people freak out when they see 95% for one and 70 or lower for another...

The studies are done in extremely different settings which makes direct comparison extremely difficult (and trusting the source of such information quite different from one country to the other).

For example Sinovac was shown with efficacy of only 51% which when read as such is like terrible

BUT

The study was done large scale in Brazil first, and showed 100% efficacy on severe and deadly symptoms. At the time, variants were already most prevalent in Brazil.

Pfizer and Moderna were tested and showed 95% efficacy but that was done before variants emerged and in the UK and US.

Comparing both by just those numbers is quite absurd but that's what most people can go by.

Novavax was effective at 89% in its test in the UK. More importantly it has been tested in phase 2b in South Africa where it demonstrated high efficacy.


The main reason why people in China really did not rush to the vaccine was that in the country there was no virus, no direct impact beyond international travel, and for a while outside of Beijing and a few other places, it was not that easy to find shots. The communication on it was also quite confusing as at first it was not offered to elderly as they worried of the safety of the shots .... which as you can imagine did not reassure people to get it early on.

Now China has administered 778 Million doses of the vaccine.... let's let that sink in for a minute... and approximately 20 Millions per day right now. The shot is also mandatory in many provinces now as they want everyone to get vaccinated.

Chinese people not wanting to take Chinese made vaccines has to do with the history of vaccine problems in China nothing to do with covid. Same reason that Chinese brokers buy all the baby formula around the world and ship it to China. Parents don’t trust the milk powder in China because of past problems and prefer foreign produced. A Chinese company is actually producing milk products in Kingston for export to China. My concerns about Sinovac is related to countries who have vaccinated with sinovac and other non-mRNA vaccines seeing surges in covid infections. If you look at the Seychelles or countries in South America like Chile you are not seeing the sharp decrease in infections and hospitalizations that you are seeing elsewhere. They are seeing increases Access to data out of China in general is tough and not always trustworthy when it comes to Sinovac is also not as easily obtained and not as transparent. Sinovac and it’s distribution and donations to countries is vaccine diplomacy and will likely come with strings attached. Unfortunately any inquiry into the Sinovac vaccine will be taken as a criticism of China which isn’t the case. Opening borders come with a lot of complications and I assume there will be many lawsuits when it comes to vaccine passports, requirements to be vaccinated, etc.

no, they only have immigrant visa and COPR, both expired.
They also have visitor visa to Canada, but seems not applicable in this case.
They shouldn't have to get another visa, they should be able to find information from IRCC on re-issuing same document with updated expiry date.

TRV is a visitor visa. If they have a valid TRV they could enter Canada and then ask for a new COPR and ask to land in Canada. They will likely need to do another medical before being granted a new COPR.

There is info on ircc web pages about what to do. Basically contact with request to authorize or extend.

Well, I don't know how... if the people don't have access to those vaccines... we get a lot of tourists coming from Asia...

A new update today for Manitoba, I realize it's not federal...but these small steps amount to bigger ones.

Current benefits for fully immunized Manitobans:
Travel without having to self isolate upon return.
exempt from self isolation if identified as a close contact
expanded visitation to Manitoba health care facilities, including personal care homes and hospitals if both patient/resident and visitor are fully vaccinated

Additional benefits are expected to be added in the coming weeks.

2 weeks after receiving a second dose, Manitobans may apply for an immunization card.
