Am posting on behalf of my roommate who is in shock right now because her visa got denied. Aveda is a private vocational institution.
The grounds she's denied for seems like an error but then private vocational schools is considered a gray area when it comes to post study work visa.
Am just looking for anyone who has gone to any private vocational schools, hopefully Aveda who has been approved post graduate visa.
She's completed hairdressing with 1400 hours in Manitoba. She's been offered a job by Aveda but because of this denied visa she is losing that offer.
If you have any suggestions in order for her to stay and work it would be highly appreciated.

To receive a post geaduate work permit the institution needs to be on the Designated List of Institutions. This is very clearly outlined on Vic website.

If the school is not on that list then her PGWP application was 100% correctly denied.

Thank you for your response... that is what perplexes us because Aveda is a designated PVI. It says so on Manitoba Student Aid website. And I know this because of my field of work.

It's not enough for the school to be listed as a DLI. Not all DLIs qualify for PGWP. If the school is a private school, there are additional requirements that must be met in order to obtain a PGWP. You can find these additional requirements here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp

It's possible the school your friend attended doesn't meet these requirements.

This government web site specifically says that Aveda graduates do not qualify for PGWP: http://www.gov.mb.ca/ie/Mobile/study/other/vocation.html

So unfortunately it appears your friend was correctly refused.
