I think fast background/security checks relate to Turkey and Georgia only as you have governments very cooperative with "western" nations and proceed requests fast. I think the VOs can check your criminal records in less than a week. Therefore, your applications are processed in less than a month. In case of the rest nations, VOs send official requests, which had to be processed, so it takes more time. I still can't understand how they do the in-country background checks.

BCG, did you get your PPR already?

Background checks in Georgia are done really fast- only a day for their citizens. I'm not sure how long it will take for the governments. I'm inclined to think the same as you.

The told us last week that they have applied for our medical extension. Not sure how long it takes. some people say 2-3 weeks, some people say 6-8 weeks. Oh well, want else can we do but to wait? At least we know things are progressing :)

Did you guys hear back anything yet? Good thing is, your medicals are still valid. We were too hasty last year and did his medicals waaaay too early!

I have only once after applying, it's when we received sponsorship approval. I am think of writing them email about the status of the application but hesitating because I know they will not respond and I can annoy them with my message. At this stage, better not to touch them, haha. Very sensitive moment for all of us.

I think they will process the medicals extensions very fast. According to their operational manual, extension is needed when your medicals has more than 15 months. In your case it does not. They must have requested extension for giving your husband a visa for more than a month validity because in a month it will be 15 months.

Please update the spreadsheets, our file is finally in Process (since February 4)!

I believe a file will not be put in process before eligibility is passed. In our case, an interview was required for assessing it.

Hi All,

I sent that last hour updating myself with the thread! Wow, very helpful and kind of warming, specifically in terms of processing time concerns!
Here is my situation and it will be wonderful if anyone can help me out here, I have just married my wife, she is a permanent resident. I am also a recent graduate of SFU, living in vancouver right now with a work permit valid until october 2013.
So, firstly, can i apply to ankara VO? Or am i considered living inside canada so i have to go under the category for applicants living inside canada?
Secondly, it has been about 18 months that i have been living in canada, so do i need a medicam exam? also, do i need a security check from iran and also from here?
And very important, apparently in the fastest scenario it takes more time that i have on my work permit (oct 2013) for me to get the PR through my wife, but can i extend my visa because of this or not?!
I am really concerned and I truely appreciate all of your inputs guys.

I hope it'll be quick! I've heard 2-3 weeks, and I've also heard 6-8 weeks.

Why don't you apply for your GCMS notes? It will give you an idea! I hope your wife gets her visa before the notes arrive :)

I don't understand their forms in details. I need a professional who can help me to fill them out. Let me try and see if I can manage filling it out :) I can submit it online, right?

BCG, I have several questions:
1. Do I need only form IMM5563E or consent form IMM574 too?
2. Do I need to include a proof that I am a PR?
3. Does it go with reference to Access to Information Act?
4. Does it go from my name or my wife's (applicant) name?

Thank you!

May I answer?

1- You need to submit both forms. Your wife must sign the consent form (IMM 5744).
2- If you have a mailing address in Canada, you don't have to provide a proof.
3- Yes, you make the request under the "Access to Information Act". You must pay 5$ and include the receipt.
4- Your name goes in the requester section. Your wife's name goes in the information requested section.

Great, thanks! One more question: in the consent form, do I also need to sign this consent form as a spouse? Seems illogical that I give myself a consent :)

No, you don't need to sign it as a spouse. It's only for a couple giving access to a third person.

Your wife can fill it out online, print it, sign it, scan it, save it as a PDF file, then send it to you by email. The same thing goes for the request form (you input data, print, sign, scan, save as PDF).

Then you can send all three PDF files (including the receipt) to CIC by email without having to wait for snail mail to arrive.
