I’m an American living in California and is married to a Canadian (living in Canada) for a little over 3 months. Our application is outland sponsorship, can I also apply for a Work Permit?

If we decide to apply inland, as an American, can I “just” move to Canada? If allowed, can I still leave the country to visit another? I couldn’t find any read on this…

Appreciate your reply... Thanks!

Open work permits are only available to those who have applied inland. If you applied outland, you don't qualify.

You can visit Canada, you cannot 'move' to Canada until you have PR.

Each time you leave and re-enter Canada, you'll be re-assessed as a visitor. Re-entry is never guaranteed.

If you have already filed outland - definitely stick with outland. We see most Americans get through the process in less than six months.

Thank you, Scylla. Very helpful information.

One more question... With the outland sponsorship application, having been married for only 3 months and not living together, are we required to provide supporting docs such as Joint residential, utilities, same address, financial support documents, etc? We don't have any of these documents yet. What other documents can we provide to support this requirement? So far, we have the following: 1) Insurance Benefits 2) Pictures and Social Media 3) ???? Please help. Thank you!

You really need to move over to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum. That's where all of these discussions are located.

So.... is there any difference in the new packages outland vs inland for an american spouse sponsored by a Canadian? they look similar.
