I'M SORRY, i've thought of another series of questions. hopefully i can make this clear...

OKAY. so when i'm clearing customs in YYZ (after we are married but before we are submitted the PR)

would you tell the agents that you are visiting your husband for 6 months while your PR is in process? and of course bring proof that you do plan on submitting PR (receipts, payment receipts, marriage certificate) and proof that you plan on returning to US after 6 month period (a return airline ticket)

OR do you just say you are visiting for 6 months and have proof of a return airline ticket?

what is the most appropriate thing to say in this situation?

i've heard that using the word "married" "Husband" can cause a major red flag.

any opinions?

Tell them you're visiting your husband while getting your PR paperwork in order. If they ask you further questions, be 100% honest with them. DO NOT LIE. Trust me, they appreciate honesty. They also appreciate to see people following the rules, so if you can, try to pay your application fee and have the receipt to show your intent to file. It helps. Also, provide LOTS of proof you have ties to back home. They still want to see that you will leave the country eventually.

The best things to bring would be: marriage certificate, receipt of application fee paid, and proof of ties to US. This is all from personal experience of crossing after marriage but before PR application was sent. Being married to a Canadian from a visa-exempt country is not a "red flag". The border agents know the drill. They will ask you who you are visiting in Canada and do not lie to them. Using the word "husband" backed up by proof of intent to apply for PR and following the rules is exactly what they want to see. This is only assuming they even pull you into secondary questioning.
