Hi everyone,

Hoping someone may have been in the same boat and can help put my mind at ease as to what the next steps are.

Applied for spousal sponsorship in June 2021 (applied as outland at the time as although i was in Canada for the year i was always going to leave in Jan 2022- so now im back in the UK whilst my wife (the sponsor) is in Canada).

Anyway, yesterday i finally got the good news email from IRCC-:eek: 'Your application for permanent residence has been approved. The final step in processing your application is to confirm your permanent residence and create your permanent resident card. ':)

So i was to provide them with the requested info, UCI no, date of entry to Canada etc. but at the bottom of the PDF on the email it states ' If you are outside Canada: If you are currently outside Canada, you cannot be landed using the PR Portal (PR Confirmation). It is important that you let us know when you are planning on returning to Canada by replying to this email. Further instructions will be sent to you.'

I responded saying im planning on coming back in May and to advise on next steps.

Now, my mind is all over the place- im exited that the process is almost over, elated that the PR has been approved, but anxious as to what the next steps are.

Has any one been in this scenario, and can advise on what the likely next steps are? if its a PR travel document until im in Canada ? or fly to canada and get the PR when i go through immigration? really not sure and the waiting for IRCC to get back to me is just keeping me guessing.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

Naal

You'll get a passport request and a copr (and visa if needed ) issued oursiant to that. Then you travel to Canada and become a PR. Pretty standard stuff for outland, just they didn't notice you were no longer in Canada.

Update-

Just got emailed from IRCC the following so itll need to wait until im back inland;

' As we require clients to be present in Canada to receive confirmation of their permanent residence, and you have indicated that you are currently outside Canada, we cannot move forward with your application at this time. Please notify immigration when you enter Canada '

Sucks cant do it from here but it is what it is

Interesting - I'm a tiny bit surprised since you had originally filed outland, but anyway, that should work too.

On the positive side: at least this means you wont' get caught in a limbo of waiting for eg LDN to send you passport request and then sending stuff back and forth - and possibly not knowing whether you'll get the necessary docs back in time for your travel.

On the negative - if they want to do it through this portal, you may have a delay in Canada after you arrive, which might mean not being able to work right away.

Suggestion: I think this is a HUGE longshot, but have photographs of the right size (for PR card) with you and when you arrive, tell the passport officer you're waiting for the landing process. There have been one or two cases (that I recall here) of those arriving who needed to do landing (a bit like your case) and the immigration officers just doing it. I suspect that was kind of a lucky accident really but who knows, and it probably won't hurt to ask or hint.

Also keep in mind if you want to have 'goods following,', i.e customs free. I have no idea how that would work in your case.

Just a reminder for others that it is really important to update your address if you enter or leave Canada. If your address has been updated you would have likely been sent a PPR and then a COPR to receive PR on arrival.

Final update i think. IRCC responded to my mail regarding whether my approved PR will still be approved when i return to canada. They have said ;

'Unfortunately, since you do not reside in Canada, we are unable to continue with your portal creation. Please contact us when you are back in Canada along with your updated information regarding your latest entry date and location when you return. Your COPR will expire on September, 16, 2022 '

So sounds all good, notify them when i return and ill get access to the portal to apply for the PR.

Can relax now knowing that finally.

I also received the same email saying that: "As we require clients to be present in Canada to receive confirmation of their permanent residence, and you have indicated that you are currently outside Canada, we cannot move forward with your application at this time. Please notify immigration when you enter Canada "

But, I do not have a Canada visa as it expired a year ago. So, what should be the next step to get a visa to enter Canada? And, after entering Canada, how long do I need to wait in Canada to get PR before I can leave Canada? Do I also need to submit my passport to CIC.

Did you apply as outland?

That is an answer to a different question. Are you certain you applied outland class?
I applied for ONIP PNP nomination while I was outside Canada. Then I applied for paper based non-express entry PR while outside Canada. So, I think they should be knowing that I am outside. I am not sure if they treat it as outland or inland.
