Just as an update of the current processing timelines, my brother-in-law applied for a TRV from Pakistan at the end of June. He received his approval on September 4th, so it is taking about 2 months to process at present.
Nice to know that your bro-in-law got his visa.
did he apply online?

He did apply online. He had applied last year on his own without any real supporting documents and got rejected. This time around, the application package was more thorough and it got approved.

Online application is processed faster (by say a week or so) mainly because it skips the phase of some one in the embassy manually scanning all your docs and create an online file into their system. Also you would save having to send most of your originals by applying online.

You will upload only the docs that are required along with the rest of your application forms. When applying for open work permit, based upon your husband's closed work permit, you would be asked scanned copies of his offer letter, passport and possibly other evidence of job there.

Dear Se7en.

I will suggest you that u should only apply for your mother becoz your status is not confirmed in Canada and financial condition is also insufficient. If u will apply for your spouse which is student then definitely visa officer will reject your case due to week ties from your home country and will decide that your spouse will not leave canada at the end of trip and confusion about purpose of visit and travel history as well.

I am not disappointing you but dear it is fact....

Hi,
I've got refusal for my TRV with following reasons:
1.Your travel history
2.Your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence
3.Purpose of visit
4.Limited employment prospects in your country of residence

Regarding Limited employment prospects in country of residence, my husband has left the job and started a restaurant in Dubai six months ago with an initial investment of 400,000AED. It's quite a big investment. doesn't it satisfy the VO or it means something else?
Regarding Family ties, my husband is taking care of the buisness in dubai and he is not applying for the TRV,is this not enough to show my family ties in the country of residence?we're also legal residents here what else would be required to satisfy the VO?
What is the best thing to mention as the purpose of visit?(i do not have any friends or relatives in canada)
I have applied for my four kids too, aged between 6 to 15.
Now i m coming to Islamabad on 21st, if anybody knows any good legal advisor or representative in Islamabad, plz refer me, i want to reapply with experts advise. Before i applied online from Abu Dhabi.

This is a wonderful thread. I hope experts in this thread give me awsome advice for my appliacation, Specificaly Fkl & Waqar whos previous comments are very usefull.

I need experts guide if I can reapply for TRV as my application is refused in first attempt.

Following reasons are stated for my visa refusal

1. Length of proposed stay in Canada
2. Purpose of visit
3. Your current employment situation
4. Your personal assets and financial status

I applied for a special advanced IFRS 2days course in toronto. Overall I had stated in my application 10 days stay in Canada.

My purpose of visit was to attend the course sponsored by my employer. I work in multinational telecom company.

I just really dont know what do they mean by my current employment situation.

I provided them the letter from employer that they will cover all my cost associated to this trip. I also provided them my personal bank statement had a running balance of US$8000.

Please someone guide if I can reapply.

Best Regards, AK

That is a tough one to pick cause for. I will only speculate based upon what i know.

Generally speaking very short term courses are not viewed as of enough value to travel that far. Of course for e.g. if it is world renowned conference and you are an established researcher going to present a paper, it might be a different thing.

A few questions - are you married? How much of relevant job experience you have here in Pak? Are you making a good enough living here that you may not be considered a potential immigrant even illegally?

I am not asking you to disclose your compensation or any thing, but following would help.

Canada and US have quite similar grounds of suspicion on visit visas.

Many years ago, i applied for a business visit visa to US. I was working in an MNC in Pakistan which had head office in the US and all my expenses would be afforded by my employer. I was approximately 3 years experienced then and was making some where around 50k per month at that time to give a perspective.

Salary matters, because we had to submit slips and bank statements showing proof of income being transferred to account (in a similar way banks do for credit cards locally). Then experience matters (3 years is considered less for some one needed to be sent to US from a company office here). The visa officer in Islamabad said right into my face. "You have barely 3 years and you consider yourself experienced enough" (US visas have a mandatory interview for every applicant).

Last ground is marital status i.e. if you are married and have wife and kids here, it is treated as "strong ties" for you to return latter. My visa was rejected in that attempt.

Some years latter i applied again. This time i was working for a different employer (another MNC) at a more senior role with better compensation and experience and was again going to the head office of employer in US. Also i was married with 2 kids at that point. Visa was easily granted. In fact i received passport in record time i.e. 10-12 days from the date of interview.

That does not mean, if you are single, you won't always get visa. But you should have a very good job here, are experienced (the more - the better), show healthy income (pay slips and bank statements showing compensation being transferred regularly to your accounts). Available funds in account rarely matters in a case where your company is sponsoring the visit.

Hoping that helps.

Thanks for the detail response fkl.

In response to your queries, Yes I am married and have a child only. I work for multinational company in managerial position and my monthly salary is more than PKR 200k. I provided them the payslip too. However I expense out most of my income in tuition and personal business. I have my personal IT business but I didn't disclosed in my application. Its worth to mention that business license is not on my name, I registered it on my cousin name due to conflict of interest with my current employment. I am also MBA student in international university and I stated them the same in my application. I provided them my professors recommendation letters too. I have 8 years of professional experience.

If 2 days training course dosent work, what would be the other options for purpose of visit. I just want to visit canada and enjoy for a month or less. What about English learning programs for 6 weeks in canadian universities or colleges, but that would be personal not official.

Best, AK

Dear afgkab,

It is extremely sad news that ur TRV has been refused. Can u please answer the some folowing questions.

1) R u working in a telecom operator or vendor?
2) What is type of course. provide its description?
3) did u attend such courses before or did u attend any international conferences, or symposium before?
4) what is your travel history?
5) what is your job rank and from how many years u r working?
6) Lastly provide us list of all docs u were attached along your case?

According to my observation, VO rejects ur case on thinking following reasons. e,g

Following reasons are stated for my visa refusal

1. Length of proposed stay in Canada....................(It means that VO was confused about your stay in Canada, may be u r single here or may be u have week ties with your native country)

2. Purpose of visit.............................(It means that your purpose of visit was not clear)

3. Your current employment situation...........(It means that your current work responsibilities are quite different from that contents of course/agenda of conference which you were going to attend. Moreover, may be, u don't have attend such courses before.)
4. Your personal assets and financial status..........(confusion b/w your own bank statement and employer bank statement.)

Other experts in this forum can disagree of my observation.
