Can any fellow Bangladeshi provide me some guide regarding the POF? I have recently created my EE profile and in order to show proof of fund I have made an FDR of 3 months. I intend to show the FDR and the rest of the amount in my Saving account. Both all together will have the required fund for 3 people. Now my question is will it be acceptable? I have seen in a facebook group that said FDR cannot be shown as a POF. Is that true? I am confused.

I have shown 60% amount Saving Certificate of Bangladesh Bank, Some amount 25% amount of FDR and rest of the amount of DPS. but my youngest brother shown full amount FDR as a POF . We are both got PPR. so you have no confusion to show FDR as a POF but you have to keep your mind always maintain sufficient balance in your saving A/C.

Can you please explain what do you mean by sufficient balance in my saving A/C. And for FDR did your brother gave them any extra letter? Or what documents did he submit in total for proof of fund?

Respected Seniors,
Is stock/equity balance in Dhaka stock exchange BO account acceptable as settlement fund instead of FDR/savings account? Is the three months account statement of BO account with latest portfolio statement work for this purpose?

sufficient balance means not less than required amount always withdrawal keep required amount.

I was hoping to settle in a small city/town in Canada, away from Toronto. Leaving Dhaka and don't want to land in another crazy big city. I really miss a simple laid back life. But relatives are discouraging saying my child would be discriminated in schools and everywhere. Is it the case? I am ready to face some diversity and intolerance but is it that bad?
Around the core city of Toronto, there are smaller cities. While it is advisable to avoid some of those, such as Brampton, Malton, you could choose among the other ones, and, among those other ones, I would put Mississauga at the top. In Mississauga, you will have the laid back life you said you wished for. And, that city is NOT boring. That's a fine blend of urban life and nature. One can enjoy all the urban features and switch in minutes to be lost in nature and seek tranquility therein.

Speaking of feeling bored, kindly ignore talks that claim Ottawa is a boring city. I don't know who said it but I read it somewhere on this thread. Whoever said it could not be more wrong.

If, for some reason you do need to travel to the city of Toronto from any nearby city, you could avail the public transportation facilities that link all cities around Toronto and Toronto itself. In other words, the entire GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is served by a strong network named the Go-network which has both bus and train routes. That network also connects with the local transport networks in the cities. A lot of people travel on a daily basis from one point to another in GTA in order to go to work, schools, etc.

Some new immigrants cannot help but look for a comfort zone once they arrive in Canada. They prefer being among Bangladeshis in a place inhibited by none other than Bangladeshis. Before they arrive, they envision living in a place where the pedestrians walking by speak in Bangla, the bus drivers are Bangladeshis, the shop-keepers greet in Bangla, Bangladeshi restaurants on either side of the road emit the smell of Bangladeshi food, etc. If that is the intention one has, then the best place for such an individual would be the Danforth area in Toronto.

Otherwise, if anyone asks me, I say Mississauga, above all.

Lastly, about, intolerance, discrimination, etc, here is one thing to remember to ease the worries: Canada is not USA.

You're right to some extent, Toronto will remind you of Dhaka, especially the traffic and chaotic driving.

You can divide the livable cities in Ontario in 3 tiers (based on population & size):

Tier 1: Toronto (2,731k), Ottawa (932k), Mississauga (721k), Brampton (593k), Hamilton (537k)
Tier 2: London (384k), Markham (329k), Vaughan (306k), Kitchener (233k), Windsor (217k), Richmond Hill (195k), Oakville (194k), Burlington (183k)
Tier 3: Sudbury (161k), Oshawa (159k), Barrie (141k), St. Catharines (133k), Guelph (132k), Cambridge (130k), Whitby (128k), Kingston (124k), Ajax (120k), Milton (110k), Waterloo (105k), Chatham (101k), Brantford (97k), Bowmanville (92k), Pickering (92k), Niagara Falls (88k), Newmarket (84k), Peterborough (81k), Sault Ste. Marie (75k), Sarnia (72k)

Geographically, London, Chatham, Sarnia & Windsor are far west from Toronto, Sudbury & Sault Ste. Marie are located at North, Peterborough, Kingston & Ottawa are on East, St. Catharines & Niagara Falls are at South from Toronto while the rest are just surrounding cities of Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

I wouldn't consider any cities from Tier 1 or 2 being laid-back. However, Milton, Oakville, Burlington, Richmond Hill and Tri-cities (Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge) are good places to live especially because they are very close to Toronto but not as chaotic as that and offer diversity.

Outside GTA and Ottawa, London, Kingston and Windsor have large number of Muslim population. Any other city would be lot less diverse.

I've been living in Ontario for last 13 years out of which 6+ years in Sarnia (present), 4 years in Windsor (University life), 1.5 years in Toronto (work), 1 year in Kingston (work), 6 months in Kitchener-Waterloo (work). And I visited almost all places mentioned in my list. Personally, since I'm married now, have an almost 3-year old and my mom lives with me; I would like to settle in somewhere close to GTA where my family can experience some Bangladeshi food-culture, practise religion socially, entertain from sub-continental festivity and at the same time avoid major city havoc. Sarnia, where I live now, doesn't offer any of these except laid-back environment.

Re: discrimination at school for your kid, mine still doesn't go to school. But I never heard of such racism. In few places, where you could be the only visible minority, children can naturally become curious. But they don't become racist unless that is practised at their home. So, you don't have to worry about it.
